I just joined and have noticed a lot of people from Oregon and Washington! I’m in school in Utah, but I’ll be back in the Pacific NW (Orchards, WA to be exact) soon and would love to know some great places to get rabbits from. I’m really looking into Lops and do not want to support poor breeders. I want a rabbit with a good temperament from parents with good temperaments as well.

        Thanks in advance ^_^

How about a shelter? Shelter workers know how the personality of an animal, as they interact with them a lot.

What is a good temperament? I would just keep an open mind when it comes to rabbits. 99.9% of rabbits do not like be cuddled or held. They will have a mind and personality of their own. That is what makes each rabbit special

[edit] I thought you are going to keep one of your foster buns.

You definitely have your hands full right now, so when the time comes (maybe in a year if you’re looking to bond your newly adopted foster with another rabbit), check out the rescue you fostered this bunch from. Rescues get all types of breeds in, including lops.

I’m not sure if I’m going to keep one or not, seeing as I’ve got another semester of school after this one, a six month internship after that (which could be in either OR or ID), and then I have to move back to the NW. How do rabbits do with moving? That’s what I’m worried about, I don’t know if it would be fair to keep Pipp and then have her moved all over the place :/.

Ideally, I would get a rabbit around next Christmas, since by that time my internship will be over and I know where I’ll be staying for the next several years.

Any rabbit rescues in particular in the Portland area? Maybe I’ll just have to foster another mama/babies group and fall in love with one again ^_^

I am not sure about most rabbits since these are my first two. But we just moved from Fort Hood TX back home to Joplin MO and it was a littke rough but my two did fine. We also had to take them with us on the same journey a little while ago when joplin was hit by the tornado and we had to help my mother in law who lost her house. It was rough for them but they did really good then too. Mine are mini rexes so I dont know about other breeds, but as long as you are there for them to show them you love them they should be ok with moving.

I got my rabbit, Riley, 4 1/2 years ago when I was in college. Since I adopted him, he has lived in….6 homes? And had to travel back and forth with me for vacations, since I can’t leave him in my apartment for a week at Christmas!

I can’t speak for all rabbits, but Riley has taken all of the moves in stride. In fact, I think he kind of likes new places. He doesn’t like car rides, but once we’re in a new place he starts exploring and settles in pretty quickly. It might not be ideal, but I think he would rather stay with me than be rehomed.

Now, I did have a problem with one summer job I had, where the housing was provided. Riley had to stay with my Mom for that summer, since the housing didn’t allow pets. He didn’t get out a lot that summer, but I built him a large pen to live in in the laundry room, so he still got exercise.

If you’re not in a position to adopt right now, it sounds like the responsible thing to do would be to wait. Rescues are always in need of fosters, so you could even foster more buns short-term in the meantime.

I agree with Beka27, fostering sounds like the best thing for you right now. You’ll know when you are ready for that BIG leap into rabbit slavedom lol. Besides you need to have that special connection that you get with the right companion. And you cant rely on advise to make that decision for you. Best wishes to you!

There is a volunteer from RA that is also a member – monkeybun.

If you foster different rabbits, you might also find one that you want to adopt. Even once you’re settled and looking to adopt, you can foster a rabbit as a trial adoption.
