Okay.. So Lulla’s a 13lb Californian. She gets unlimited hay, fresh greens once a day, and usually i fill her bowl full of pellets and she just munches away at them and i fill it up again when its empty. Lately they seem to be disappering rather quickly. So we don’t really have an established daily pellet amount. She’s in need of a serious diet. Mainly because her urogenital region keeps getting infected as she is too large to reach down there to clean the area. Her last infeciton cleared up and she had been taking good care of herself lately unitil today I saw it was infected again. So we’re going on a serious diet. I’m wondering what the correct amount of pellets would be for a Californian. I’m guesssing about 1 cup of pellets a day. What do the other Californian owners feed theirs?

It’s 1/4 to 1/2 cup per 6lbs, so you can probably safely cut her down to 1/2 cup a day until her weight gets back to normal.

I would start by measuring how much you are feeding her right now. Fill her bowl up as you normally would, and then pour the pellets into a measuring scoop and see what she’s getting now. I think you could safely reduce her to 1/2 a cup per day. If she’s a good hay and veggie eater, she will increase consumption of those foods. She should be having a minimum of 4 cups of veggies a day, but she can have up to 8 cups. With her pellets, I’d think about feeding 1/4 cup in two different sittings.
