So apparently someone has secretly been peeing in the corner behind the desk (where I can’t see). The carpet has been pulled up back there by two naughty little diggers and the wood floor has been exposed. My husband discovered the pee spot while he was down in the basement. I guess the pee went between the boards (it is an old style wood floor, no tongue and groove) and started dripping from the floor joists which are exposed in the laundry/storage room in the basement. My husband is P-I-S-S-E-D. What should I do? I had no clue this was happening and I’m not sure how to correct it. You can’t fit a litter box back there. Should I just corral off the area? Or will they just make themselves a new pee spot?

Have you tried using vinegar on that spot?

No, I haven’t yet. It’s underneath the boards though, so I’m not sure how well that will work.

Ohhh I just thought maybe for deterring them from peeing there again, sorry about it going underneath the boards!!!

My husband is so mad. He said the rabbits needed to stay in their cage today. I’m not really sure what to do. We haven’t had a problem like this before. From what I could tell, they were doing pretty good with the litter box. I even allowed Leopold to keep it where he had moved it. This was after much back and forth (literally) and finally I just gave up. The litter box is now where he wants it to be.

I would block off that area so they can’t get back there at all.

My rabbits have a corner they will use if they can get to it – it’s not somewhere I want to have a litter box so I just blocked it off with junk, problem solved.

Okay, I’m going to scare the crap out of them with the carpet shampooer today. Maybe I’ll see if I can find some nic grids. I finally found some at one store. I had looked everywhere but they always had holes that were too big. So I will go back to this store and see if they still have some. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Boy my husband was mad.

Well, hopefully the problem has been solved. I drenched the area with vinegar and then shampooed it. I have the area corralled off with nic grids. So.. we will see.

UPDATE: With everything in place, Leopold and Wooly were out almost all day today. Leopold is pretty mad about the whole thing and has been pouting. He was grabbing onto the nic grids with his teeth and shaking them as hard as he can. Too bad for him, they are secured enough so he can’t simply push them around. Anyway, after realizing he wasn’t going to get his way, he was basically giving me the butt all day. Hopefully he will get over it soon. I had enough grid squares to block off the chew spots on the drywall as well, so he is most likely POed about that too.

Oh goodness, toys have been tossed everywhere. That poor basket with the “carrots” has taken an obvious beating. Somebody is really, really frustrated right now.

Oh boy. He will get over it soon. Bunnies can be so much like toddlers. Sneekily doing stuff they aren’t supposed to do, and throws fits when they don’t get what they want. LOL

It’s funny how they are each taking it differently. Leopold is having temper tantrums. Wooly, on the other hand, simply sniffed the grids and then hopped off. He didn’t give them a second thought. I’m pretty sure though that the only reason he’s been chewing on the drywall is because Leopold was doing it. So maybe it wasn’t as traumatic for him.

Just giving an update on how this has been going. I am happy to report that my two little devils have magically turned into little angels. Okay, not quite. But there has definitely been an improvement in their behavior. Obviously, they aren’t peeing in the one spot anymore and they aren’t chewing on the wall anymore. What has surprised me though is that there are less poops being scattered. They are litter trained, of course. But being the boys that they are, there would always be little surprises for me to pick up. Without their pee spot, they seem to want to “mark” less.

                                  Is that weird?

Maybe without their pee spot they’ve realized that the living room isn’t a big bathroom for them?

Sometimes male animals have the urge to mark over each other’s markings – my friends have two neutered dogs who occasionally mark and then re-mark things (very gross). It could be that when one would pee, the other would feel the need to leave some poops around.

That might be it! I must say, I am very pleased so far!
