Vacuum recommendations?

Hey all!

I just moved into a new place and… no vacuum. I’m at college and all of the previous places I’ve lived in have had one. So I’m in the market. Does anyone have any tips or vacuums they have really liked?

I’m kinda poor, so I’d prefer to spend no more than 80, though if someone has one that’s just amazing for a bit more I could be persuaded. These are the ones I’ve been looking at:

I’m a little afraid of getting a normal house vacuum as every one I have used has been TERRIBLE about getting clogged with hay and hair AND super difficult to disassemble and clean. Thanks for any help!

I would be sure to find a vacuum and make sure you can get the bags in store. I made taht mistake so I have to buy bags online!

When it comes time for vacuuming, I will pick up the big pieces and put it in a plastic bag! I just vacuum up the small pieces so it doesn’t hurt the vacuum.

I don’t have a car, so I’d rather buy them online. Yeah, I usually do heavy sweeping before I vacuum, but even then they ALWAYS get clogged.

First buy at Walmart-seriously the cheapest.

Buy Bissel-we strayed once and that vaccum lasted two days. Two days. We put our vaccums through serious trials-they are shop vaccums cleaning up drywall dust, nails, paint, etc. Add to that five shedding creatures, wet messes from our winters, hay etc. Bissels last about 2-3 years for us, through all of that. We have two industrial shop vac’s we don’t bother with because the Bissels are so good. You can pull them apart to clean them, rinse everyting including filter and there are no bags. Belts are cheap and easy to install, onboard attachments.
I think we should be on their commerials, Rupert should be their mascot and I’d never recommend anything else

CONGRATS ON 10,000 POSTS! I noticed you at 9,999 earlier and was actually hoping I’d see 10,000.

Maybe recommend me one of yours? I’m a little worried about getting a bagless vacuum. All I’ve seen thus far have been full of fail.

Honestly, I would buy a separate carpet sweeper for hay. BB turned me onto one from target, the Shark Carpet sweeper. It’s awesome. Picks up hay like you wouldnt believe. Saves wear and tear on the vacuum too It does NOT replace a vacuum, but you can’t beat it for picking up hay.

Either would do-I just have found bissels to be great We always had central vac growing up so having a vaccum is different, but we’ve busted enough that I can give a super solid recommendation for Bissel The bagless and totally take apart to wash is a huge advantage, and they take a lick’n and keep on We also have a Bissel carpet shampooer and my mom borrows it-she has a professional carpet shampooer that is outdone by a 60$ Bissel shampooer

 A few months back I purchased the shark navigator for about 120 at bed bath and beyond ( I had a 20% off coupon)  and it is amazing!  Its great for carpet and barefloors, also the attachments work great ut best of all its bagless and has a hepa filter to keep the excess dust from escaping,  its a little more than you said but for what it does it incredible!  lol I never knew I could be so excited over a vacuum

 I use a shopvac to get all the crazy hay (especially when I use 1st cut). It’s great for getting edges and corners that the shark or vacuums may miss.   But it’s noisy and shoots out smelly air so I make sure I have a fan (on a different circuit so I don’t blow a fuse), and have a window open.   I usually use that quickly every few days. 

I use the shark that Monkey was talking about as it really picks up hay and stuff very well for quick pick up.   I use that daily to keep the place tidy. 

I will use our normal vaccuum in the bunnyroom once a week (after I’ve used the shark or the shopvac), to do a deeper rug cleaning.

 Updating with what I ended up doing. I got a 5.5 Horsepower ShopVac. The guys who live upstairs from me have an upright vacuum that they said I could borrow any time so I decided to go with a pure hay destroying machine. I blew my budget through the roof, but I love it so much.

It works GREAT. Not a single clog yet after daily use for a couple weeks. I’m mostly using orchard grass hay right now, but even when I was using timothy I could just suck up whatever. Even the big pieces. That handle is truly a back saver and I’d recommend it to anyone with a shop vac and the 2.5 inch hose set. It has that red ring thing that allows you to adjust the air flow and suction power. That’s essential for mine, as it has enough power to pull my carpet off the ground.

 

Thanks for the recomendation on the Bissels Koka! When I move away and am in the market for a more normal vacuum that does more to clean the carpet I’ll definately take a look at those! What I’ve researched and your recomedation have sold me on one.
