In the last few days Mocha has been scared of me. He has always hated to be touched and pet but is normally friendly otherwise. But within the last few days he  has been scared and aggressive!

Example: About an hour ago, I went into my room and started packing for a trip we are taking over the weekend. Mocha was happily eating in his litter box when all of the sudden, he frantically jumped out of his box and ran up the ramp to the middle level of his condo and cowered in a corner keeping one eye on me. This has been happening allot lately so I went in the kitchen to get a carrot to show him I am not to be afraid of. When I came, back he ran up onto the top level and stood in a hunched position. When I handed him the carrot he lounged at me, when he saw I had a carrot he grabbed it from me but still kept an eye on me. After I finished packing I thought that he might have been scared/aggressive because I smelled like Sebastian. I took a shower and went back into my room about a half hour later. He was laying down out side of his condo and when I came in he didn’t move. I thought he might be sleeping and said “ Mocha” in my bunny voice, I said it a few times and he must have woken up and found out I was there and ran into his condo, up the ramp and into his hidey house.  I walked up to the condo and put my hand down for him to sniff me and he lounged again!

I don’t know what to think! This type of stuff has been happening for the last few days and I am starting to wonder if he doesn’t hear me or see me some how and when he does it scares him… Or he just hates me…

        Any Ideas?

Rabbits do not have the capacity to hate so it’s definitely not that.

I guess I might wonder if he’s having some medical issues, that’s always my first thought when a rabbit’s behavior changes.

I really don’t think it’s because you smell like Sebastian…I rarely have my rabbits give me problems when they smell other rabbits on me and you’ve had Sebastian for awhile now, so I don’t see how he could suddenly have this reaction now.

Yeah… that’s what I thought. I was wondering if he was deaf or something and then when he sees me he gets scared but I can tell he can hear me.

Has anything changed lately? New perfume/cologne maybe? I would take him to a vet if possible to be checked out, but try to identify what is freaking him out. I doubt it’s you, you’re his slave. But you might have changed something and not realized it would be that big a deal to him.

I thought a medical issue also. I can always tell if Rosy is hurting because she’ll run from me and be stand-offish. Then I know it’s vet time.

After I posted this I went into my room spoke loudly and clapped my hands so mocha new I was there and he ran right over to me sniffing, just like normal. Do you think I could have just startled him before? I am so nervouse now. If it was a medical reason I hope he will be ok until Sunday because I am gone!

Stickerbunny: I don’ wear perfume. Never have because my mom is allergic to strong smells like that.

It is possible you were over reacting about his behavior – it happens all the time especially with rabbit people :~) Sometimes we expect our rabbits to act a certain way all the time and well, they just don’t. I think as long as you feel he is eating and pooping normally, he will be fine. I think you probably will have to go with your parents and trust that he is fine.

Forgive me, but is Mocha the loppy? I can’t remember. If so, here’s my 2 cents. lol

I swear Eddie freaked himself out ALL. THE. TIME. And I do think it was due to his ears. Not that he had anything wrong with them to my knowledge, but it was like unless he had them perked up, he couldn’t hear a darn thing. And he’d seem to startle himself when waking up. Something about the whole becoming aware of his surroundings. He didn’t do it a lot or anything, but it did seem like he went through periods were he did it more. So perhaps this is what’s going on with Mocha. ???

As you know, as long he’s eating and pooping, he is probably fine. Just keep an eye on him if you’re able.

Yes he is a lop. That is probably what is going on.
