Powder is about 4 years old, male, neutered and has had over a month to heal/let his hormones settle.

Stickers is about 8 months old, female, spayed and has had over 2 months to let her hormones settle.

I have been doing daily bonding sessions in a neutral territory trying to get them to bond. But… ALL Powder is interested in is mounting her. Constantly. Non-stop. It’s been four days now and there is no sign of it lessening. She HATES it, to the point of making pitiful little crying noises when he does it because he just won’t stop. I tried petting them both,  she likes the pets but he has no interest and just wiggles to get away and get on her. I tried offering them both their favorite treats, again he ignores it and just goes for her. I tried stopping him, since she hates it so much, but in order to get him to stop for more than half a second I have to remove her. She will STAND and ask to be picked up, which normally to pick her up is a hassle and I have to chase her down, but she meekly comes to me to get away from him.

She has tried asking for grooming, she completely submits to him, there is zero aggression. All Powder does in response though is mount her and go on and on and on for however long the bonding session is. He won’t let her eat, he won’t let her drink, he won’t let her move, so I can’t make them even very long. Even the vacuum cleaner, which he usually is scared to death of, doesn’t effect him when she’s around.

        Ideas?

Mmm…my only thought is do short sessions with them in a small space. Small like side by side in a box or basket. I really don’t know if it’d help any but you might be able to intervene more easily. You could give whatever you have them in a little shake when he trys to mount. It’s something that can help to head of aggression but not sure for mounting. It might depend on why he’s doing it.

BinkyBunny had this problem with Jack when she introduced Vivian. Maybe look over her bonding threads of them?

Thanks for pointing me to those threads – Jack sounds EXACTLY like Powder and the body language on the videos is a mirror image (and Powder and Jack look a like too, looks like I am watching a video of my rabbit almost). Stickers doesn’t fight back, so thankfully I don’t have to deal with that, but maybe I can get him to cool it off with some of the stuff BB did.

Hi Stickerbunny, I was just wondering how this went? I have a new boy and he is very mounty too, and bamboo is very submissive but he won’t leave her alone. Thanks.

I had to give up the idea of enclosed, neutral territory – neither of them were aggressive, but the mounting was causing serious stress and preventing a bond. So I let them run around free supervised (with no places to “hide” and fight so I can’t break them up) so Stickers had room to run from Powder. Powder ended up chasing her non-stop for sometimes 3-4 hours at a time (the stamina of men when they want “something”), but after about a week he just one day gave up and was like “fine you win, we can snuggle instead” and then their bond went fast. If you look up BB’s threads on Jack and Vivian there are videos of Jack chasing Vivian through a bunch of cardboard tunnels… my two were exactly like that, for hours on end.

Any idea where those videos are Sticker? I’ve searched BB, Jack and Vivian, and nothing has really came up

I saw once somewhere that a good way to bond is to put them in a laundry basket on the dryer so its rummbling… then this way they find comfort in eachother because they are not sure what is happening.

I would start with short sessions for sure… but it seems like it would be worth a try.

I tried that Coco and with mine, it didn’t work – it made them go as far away as possible and if they got near enough Powder would bite her because he was stressed lol

https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/104818/afpg/6/Default.aspx there is the thread I meant (page 6 is the video I mentioned). That video, repeated 3-4 hours a day, for a week straight and you have how my rabbits acted during bonding. It’s a useful read for anyone having humping issues with their pair.

*nod* I watched it before I decided to let my two have some freedom to run around and I figured “well, if mine copy that, they can’t do it too long, that looks way too tiring” boy was I wrong! lol But letting them tire themselves out chasing actually helped bonding, cause they would get so tired they’d just flop next to each other out of exhaustion. Since their bond cemented I haven’t seen a single hump attempt either.

ok so now the humping has stopped, but they are fighting like crazy. ack it seems like the worst direction. i’ll start them off in a stressful situation and they kind of just sit still next to eachother. Then when they are out in more space they are ok for a little while, but once they approach each other they circle like crazy and then start biting and fur flying. my poor bamboo is getting really nervous all the time now. puni has so much energy he never leaves her alone.
