Hey all. I just got into the whole “real” scene and would like advice on what kind of litter scooper to use. Previously we used newspaper, but recently we got some Yesterday’s News off-brand from Amazon. It works well. As soon as our local home depot starts stocking wood stove pellets I’d like to switch to that. I know to avoid accelerants. We have litter boxes with screens from the Binky Bunny store.

Will any standard cat scooper work? Will the soiled pieces stay on top when you sift, or is there some other mysterious way to clean it out? Are there any scoopers to avoid? Does anyone have one they really like?

        Thanks for any info.

You can’t really scoop the solids out of litter like you can with a cat, since it’s tiny pellets. But any old litter scoop works for the wet pellet litters, I have a cheap $2 scooper, the wet sections just come right out and into a garbage bag.

I actually just use plastic bags to pick up the soiled portions. With wood stove pellets, once they are wet they fall apart into a saw dusty kind of thing. So I think all of the wet parts would fall out of the scoop!

Tate, they don’t I used wood pellets for Stickers for a bag (Powder absolutely refuses to have them near him) and it scooped out fine.

I use Yesterday’s News and have a cat scooper like has skinny lines so it sifts everything and keeps the clean pellets

(I don’t “sift” with the wet litter though, I just scoop and dump and it stays in)

I put a plastic glove on my hand, and scoop out the dirty litter into a trash bag. I am not squeamish.
