I was looking on a bunny blog I like to check out when I found some info on air travel with rabbits.

It mentioned WestJet now allows rabbits to travel in the cabin. : )  It cost $50 to have a pet in the cabin. WestJet only allows 2 pets in cabin per flight and only one pet per customer. Might be tricky to fly a bonded pair on the same flight but is do-able. They’d have to be in separate carriers though.

I haven’t investigated it further but I think it’s only WestJet and Continental that allow rabbits in the cabin?

The blog also had this link to Pet friendly airlines: http://www.petfinder.com/your-pet-a…lines.html

Most, if not all, the airlines here allow you to have a bunny, cat or small dog in a soft carrier in the cabin. Not sure if there is an extra charge (I’m going to assume so, there’s an extra charge for everything). You have to book quite a bit ahead of time if you are bringing a pet along. I’m not sure if there are restrictions as to how many pets per cabin. I can’t imagine a bunny traveling in cargo. The noise and weather extremes must be horribly stressful for a bunny.

My Mom is a screening officer at our City’s airport and she always tells me when a bunny passes through (not often but occasionally). She has to take the bunny out of the carrier and hold him while his carrier goes through the x-ray machine.

heheh! Well….I’m going to need 2-3 spare rooms RP, is there room? I’d have to bring 3 humans so it’s 1 person per rabbit and of course, I’d have to keep the rabbits in separate rooms with a view and…

That is so great! I don’t think any of our limited dosmestic carriers here allow pets in the cabin – well not rabbits as far as I know.

I can fit 2 of you on the enclosed porch now that it’s cooling off from the 90s to the 80s temps. And the woman who is using the garage for storage has been told to leave so she should be out of there eventually. It’s cooler than the porch….there’s room in the living room, too. LOL

                  Hooray!

I’m planning already. I just ordered matching T-shirts for me and the buns so you’ll be able to recognize us at the airport. i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp1/dohraime/noisebot1.jpg

I just saw this post and I have sort of a silly question – do rabbits/other animals get affected by the pressure changes on an airplane like humans do?

I wonder that too bunnyfriend. I assume it must affect them to some degree. They are not meant to “fly” any more than we are.

They’re OK in the cabin with you just as we are, but it’s probably not any more comfortable for them. I never like sending animals in the cargo holds (I think they do that with dogs in dog crates) because the overall conditions are so much worse and less habitable. Probably a carrier at your feet with a banana handy might be sufficient distraction to make the bunny endure it without mishap. Many members have flown with their rabbits successfully.
