Hi there i rescued my female a year ago from a rescue group the rescue group told me that sunshine was bonded but the family who wanted her mate didn’t want her so they split them up. I was researching online and saw about 2 -2 1/2 hours away from me at a humane society they offer a bun fest. You bring your bunny and they get to interact with bunnies. I was wondering if I should consider taking sunshine or if it will cause to much stress on her? The area where I live in there aren’t to many people that have rabbits. thanks

I know some people love these events, but I’ve always been very unsure of them. In general, rabbits don’t get along with unfamiliar rabbits the way dogs can go to a dog park and get along. Rabbits are very territorial and it takes them a while to accept a new bun into their surroundings and until then, new buns can be seen as intruders.

Personally, I wouldn’t take my buns to something like this. Otto got along well with every bun we put him with during dating and was a perfect gentleman, but he was still stressed out by the process and I imagine being around a lot of buns at once just wouldn’t be fun for him.

That’s a long ride, and most rabbits are not fond of traveling, and would rather be home in their familiar surroundings. I think that a rabbit might be upset by all the unfamiliar people, noise and other rabbits. I don’t know where you live, but there are usually humane societies in most counties. Not all of them accept rabbits (or keep them for very long) but maybe you could find a companion for your bunny some place locally. Or try looking on http://www.petfinder.com or http://www.petharbor.com to see listings of area shelters and rescues.

I wouldn’t-it’s a long car ride and opens up the risk of the rabbits passing on numerous diseases through that contact; in addition they can fight. So although I too warm up at the thought of like a ‘dog park’ for bunnies, with them all meeting and frolicking-well I just don’t see that it would actually work out like that and the health risks are too high -but up to you of course!

If you’re thinking of getting her a new mate (I’m sorry she got split up) then I would simply start closer to home. You can look into bunny dating, where you bring her to a nearby shelter to meet bunnies individually to see if there is one she gets along with that you might want to own. If the fest is just for her to interact with bunnies and then go home, I always was curious about them but it’s probably not worth the long trip.
