Okay, so this is really more about Tillie. I picked up a very neglected bun yesterday. Under weight and his fur looks bad I don’t think he was ever given a single green or carrot in his life. He looked at his plate of greens and then back at me like “am I suppose to eat this?” Once he did, they were quickly gone! He was also kept in a wire bottom hutch (outside! ggrrr) so he probably thinks he has died and gone to heaven now that he is in a/c and has a nice soft bed to sleep on.

Anyway, back to Tillie. She is bonded with Toby. Last week, Tillie was spayed. I know it takes about 3 weeks – 1 month for her hormones to die down, but she is going absolutely crazy!! Last night, when she caught “wind” of the new bun in the house, she started running in circles. This got Toby all crazy and they started to sort of scuffle. No biting, just chasing each other. When I woke up this morning she had peed and pooped in front of the gate where foster is kept (though until I get his condo built, he was behind a closed door and a gate!). She is just plain p’d off over this new kid on the block. Will this territorial stuff stop when her hormones die down??!  She is also (still) pooping and peeing in the condo her and Toby share. Ugh!

Edited to add: despite the neglect this bun endured, he is the **sweetest** little guy ever. He loves pets and when I enter the room he runs over to me circles my feet. Soooo sweet!!

Still working on a name, but the kids love Smudge (he has a little small white “smudge” on the top of his head)

I am pretty new to bun ownership – but have been involved in rescue for years. Every time a new foster or permanent pet comes into our house someone gets upset and everything gets out of whack and I often find myself thinking what did I do? I think that in 2 weeks or so things will be a lot better – they will simply be more used to the smell and presence of the new little guy – and her hormones will have settled down.

Try not to stress too much over her crazy behavior right now – ignore her “bad” behavior and treat and love on her for any little good thing she does.

You new guy sounds a lot like my 2 that came to us over the summer – they were under weight and had NEVER been given anything but pellets their whole lives. Hoppers wolfs down any vegetable you put in front of him and he does and little stampy happy dance when he sees me with his salad. Grateful pets are so rewarding!

Sorry I don’t have any advice haha, but ahhh poor little foster bunny! I’m glad someone’s taking good care of him now (:

Oh my, what a cutie! Anyway, I understand the drama of having a strange bunny in the house. Jack would get really nutty at the scent of another bunny. I used to pet sit for friends, but Jack became too nutty (spraying and marking, and then he’d want to mount Vivian even more than he already did).

A few things though that did help was keeping the “visiting” bunny completely on the other side of the house, and I did limit exploration then with my own bunnies to that side. I also didn’t allow the visiting bunny to explore the same areas that Jack and Vivian would explore — as the would smell each other that way as well. I was very careful to wash my hands right after I pet the visiting bunny. If you pet your foster, and then pet one of your bunnies, that can cause a tiff even between your bonded pair.

That helped. Though I could tell Jack was picking up a new scent just via the air, he didn’t feel as threatened as when it would be on my hands, or on flooring that they may have shared. So it helped take down things down a notch.

              Good luck!

I have no advice but thank you for giving this bunny a safe and loving foster home. I’m sure he’s in heaven right now.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. BB~ I have foster as seperated as I can with our setup. The buns have the entire upstairs (gameroom and 3 bedrooms/bathroom). T&T have gameroom and one bedroom. Foster has hallway, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. I have a baby gate in the doorway to hallway/bedrooms. Tillie is still dropping territorial poop, but she is not freaking out like last night. Seems if I block her view she is less crazy about it.

Smudge (think that name will stick, Monkeybun!) has handled this change remarkably well. We are getting Bunny500’s (kids call them zoomies) and lots of binkies. He is such a complete joy! Here is what his living quarters looked like before we rescued him —

He has been such a complete joy! He is so well behaved and thrives off of attention. If I am in another room and he hears me, he comes running and then stops at my feet, stands up on his hind legs and looks up at me. Such a love!!

Smudge is your FOSTER bunny *duh*. I don’t know how I missed this thread, but when I saw your “Smudge enjoying the great outdoors” thread I thought to myself, “hmmm, I don’t remember her having a Smudge bunny.” LOL. I get it now. And he is adorable! I’m so happy you saved him from his miserable surroundings.

Tribun … he is FOSTER for now! I have to admit I am completely smitten by him. I wish my son would have gotten a picture, but today I had a raging sinus headache. I took some meds and thought “what a great time to go snuggle with Smudge” (my other 2 will NOT snuggle, no way). So, I went upstairs, layed on the floor and called him. He comes running (always does when I call him) and lay down by my head. Next thing I know I hear my son say “oh my is he dead?” I had fallen asleep and popped my head up to see Smudge completely flopped on his side right next to me, asleep! I so love that bunny!!

Awww, hunybuny! It sounds like Smudge is pretty smitten with you, too. I’m glad you’re thinking about keeping him. It’s got to be tough not to get attached to such a sweet and engaging little bun.

I can’t help but think from his perspective, too. I know my local HRS asks its fosterers to commit  six months to a year to any rabbit they take in. All I can think is, Hodari was very much at home here within a month; it’d be really stressful for her if she was only a foster, and was now going to her “forever home.” Fostering is an important and commendable thing, though. Kudos to you for doing it.  I’m just glad to hear that Smudge is so happy with you, and you with him. That’s a wonderful outcome! I’m crossing my fingers for you guys!

Now to just convince hubby!  He is not keen on having 3 bunnies, but I do all of the care. I have to foster him for at least 2 months (one month until he gets fixed) and then we want to wait about a month for him to heal. Honestly, I don’t think I can part with him. I don’t know how it is going to go, bonding him with Tillie and Toby. I do have the room to keep him seperate, but I feel badly he is alone. We shall see. I know that I cannot take in a 4th bun.

Fostering is bittersweet. I have fostered for a local dog rescue. There were some that I fell completely in love with. It is very hard to let them go. But, watching a dog that came from pretty much nothing and going into a loving home is such a wonderful feeling. Same with the buns. We can’t save them all, but one by one we can make a difference!
