my rabbit spazzy always bites at the nozzle of his water bottle with such unnecessary force that it rattles the cage and drives me insane at night. is there a problem with my rabbit or is it normal an ill just have to deal with it? and yes he has toys and food that help to grind down his teeth enough.

he also freaks out in his cage at night and keeps me up but ive worked on bunny proofing my room to give him free run at night.

Sounds like he maybe frustrated. I would give him a heavy bowl of water. I chucked the water bottle because I think it is really hard for rabbits to get their water. I’ve noticed that rabbits drink more when they have a bowl Plus, nothing beats hearing a rabbit drink water

Rabbits are very active during the times that we are sleeping. If he is in your room at night, maybe it is better to rabbit proof and let him play.

but im afraid he’ll jump around too much and spill the water all over… :\ and i dont think my mom is gonna go out of her way to buy a bowl that clips to the side of the cage….

and i know its hard for him to get the water out. sometimes i squeeze the bottle for him so he can drink easier.

A heavy ceramic bowl works well if you’re worried about the bowl being tipped over and spilling. I agree with LoveChaCha, I think he’s probably making those noises because it’s difficult to get the water. I had a water bottle for Wilbur for about one day, and I realized she wasn’t drinking much so I switched to a bowl and immediately she starting drinking a lot. My advice would be to bring your bunny a bowl of water right away (even if you’re going to buy a permanent one from the store), rabbits need to drink a lot of water and they can become dehydrated very quickly (which can cause G.I. Stasis). Plus it will save your ears (:

I agree with the comments above. It sounds like he needs a bowl. Biting at it could be boredom, but I would first try a water bowl because rabbits do need to drink water.

I agree with everyone else as well. Both of my bunnies started with water bottles, but then after each of their surgeries (neuter and spay), I gave them bowls to make it easier to drink, they decided they wanted only to drink from a bowl! LOL Also I think the biting is out of frustration as well, like was mentioned..water bottles don’t always give a nice flow of water and they may think by tugging on it they’ll get a better result. Plus, some of the water bottles are faulty at times (in my experience) and you don’t want to take the chance that he can’t get water when you think he has full access.

Maybe it’s not working right and he’s trying to get water. Make sure it is working and do consider a water bowl.

You can get the ones that lock to the side of the cage at most pet stores – if they dont have them in the small animal section, check the bird section. It isn’t really out of the way and not very expensive either. If a pet store trip for a maybe $8 bowl is too much trouble for your parents, are they prepared to take care of any vet bills/trips that might be required if your bun gets sick? An alternative is I use a heavy ceramic soup bowl for my minirex, I already had it in the house and she’s never tipped it over.

Rabbits have a lot of trouble getting water out of the bottles, mine are both on bowls because they would sit for about 5 minutes licking their bottles to get as much water as it now takes them 20 seconds to lick up out of a bowl. Plus, the bottles are sooooo loud, not something that is fun to hear at 4am.

Penelope had the opposite problem it seems as everyone else. She had a bottle for the longest time and then when I joined here and saw what people were saying about bowls (I hadn’t even thought of a bowl) I switched her over. She stopped drinking water when I did that! She would drink it seemed only when she absolutely had to. So I put her water bottle back in and she started drinking like normal. But I keep both in there just in case she changes her mind lol

i did put out a small creamic bowl for him earlier and he lapped it up like a dog. im done with the bottle. i knew it was a little hard for him to get the water but i didnt think it was THAT hard. and now that he has the run of my newly bunny proofed bedroom he’ll be a much happier bunny. no more keeping me up all night

all i got to worry about is him jumping up on the bed and scaring the crap outta me as he does frequently.

Momo used to have a water bottle that hung inside the cage. She used to pick it up by the nozzle and slam it against the side of the cage repeatedly. Pretty much for fun. She likes to throw and slam things, did the same to her hay bin until I zip tied it down. Then she destroyed that bottle during her “I’m a hormonal queen B phase” and I got her one that attaches outside of the cage. Can’t get her a bowl because she is a digger, and would fill it with stuff in no time.

My rabbit did that for awhile, I thought that he might not have been getting enough water so I went out and bought him a larger water bottle with a larger end piece. It seemed to work though he still does bite on it once in a great while.
