Today I got in a horrible car  accident and totaled my car.. I came home and my bunny was lying on its side not like flopped but almost like dead! I got worried she was under the bed where she usually sleeps and as i got closer she opened her eyes and I went to pet her and she BIT me! She is the best bunny ever and she never bit me before! She’s always licking everyone and she’s so sweet. I don’t know what’s going on! She isn’t neutered yet but 5 months old…..

She could be starting to get hormonal, she’s at that age now.

Hope you’re okay! Car accidents can be very stressful and traumatizing *hugs*

Sounds like the last thing you want to deal with after such an awful day – first be glad that you are ok.

The simple answer is that a significant and/or sudden shift in behavior that is so readily noticeable means your bunny very likely needs to go to the vet as soon as you can get her in  - first thing in the morning if possible.  You can usually call 20-30 minutes before they open.  Until then, monitor her eating and drinking habbits.  You can also switch out her litter box to begin monitoring what she does in there too.  You can also do yourself and the doctor a favor and collect a few of her droppings in a ziplock for testing – just stuff ’em in your pocket

It could be anything.  That’s part of the stress of owning a rabbit.  Is she eating or drinking?  Does she have a proper diet?  Heavily shedding?  Offer her favorite treat and see if she’ll accept it.  If she’s eating normally, then breathe a sigh of relief – that’s a good sign.  But it might be good to schedule a checkup in the next day or two anyway…

Life has a way of piling it on all at once, doesn’t it.  Prioritize and take a deep breath and you will be ok.

Sounds to me like she is being territorial, which is very common for a unspayed bun. And she is about the age that they start with the ‘naughty’ behavior. I would call and schedule her spay. Also, some bunnie sleep in the their sides, like you described.

I hope you are okay from your accident

Some lady bunnies get moody and territorial if left unspayed.. she sounds like she is hormonal..

My Chacha bun loves sleeping on her side and one time, she looked like she was about to tip over… and caught herself!

I’m sorry to hear about your accident! I hope you’re ok.

Sounds like she was in a “dead bunny flop” (or DBF, as we call it) and you probably startled her when you woke her up. Females around that age often get a bit testy if they’re not spayed, so that could be part of it.

the vet says she can’t do it till she’s 6 months so only one more month to go! She was completely back to her normal self! I’ve read about the the dead bunny flop but I’ve never seen her do it at all so it scared me very bad! She’s back to licking and following me around.. also I went away for one night and I’ve never been that long away from her so she seemed to act different when I came back but I had to rush into work and got into an accident after work when she bit me… I can’t wait to get her neutered!

I do think you just startled her and she responded. She didn’t mean anything and her aggression was fear related.

Glad you are okay! Sounds like you had a stressful day.

An experienced vet can actually spay a bunny before 6 months. Tillie was just spayed and she is just shy of 5 months. She has recovered from her surgery beautifully and her incision looks great!

Glad she and you are ok. Sounds part you startled her/hormonal/”I’m upset at you mom for going away.” My Arthur made a huge mess of his condo one weekend when I was working so much overtime. He wasn’t very happy with me
