So, I’ve had Peanut for 9 years, and he’s always been great about chewing once we got him trained.

        Until now.

For the last few nights, he’s been chewing anything and everything that he shouldn’t be- tables, woodword, and even my damn door. It’s not pretty at all. The worst part of it is that I’ve tried offering him various wicker baskets and even a little useless wood birdhouse to chomp on- he still ignores them and goes right for what he shouldn’t be chewing on.

What do I do? What could cause a shift like this in such an old rabbit?

Could he need his teeth examined? Perhaps he is growing molar spurs? Or is in pain and this is driving him to chew things?

Yes, have his teeth examined. Older rabbits are very susceptible to molar spurs.

As in humans, with age the jawbones can deteriorate, leading to loose teeth or a change in the way the teeth line up. So a rabbit who may have never had teeth problems before, can suddenly develop issues later in life. It is likely that this is the problem now so a vet exam will be necessary. Please keep us posted!
