How much should I be brushing while they are molting? My lil ones are short haired and normally doesn’t need much brushing, maybe once a month; I use my hands in between the brushing when I pet them to remove extra fur. I gave them a full brush over with the hairbuster over the weekend and it looked really nice for a few hours… but then it started looking messy again with my palms looking like mittens when I pet/give rub downs within 5 hours especially on my black and white female.

I know more brushing would be better but I don’t want to overdo it because I don’t want the skin of my arms to look like I’ve been majorly abused =) and it takes forever to chase them down and kidnap them.

I’ve been brushing mine about once a week and just mainly picking off the clumps with my fingers, since their hair is coming out in big clumpy messes with their molt. Powder doesn’t like being brushed, but he will tolerate me pulling at his loose fur with my fingers as long as one hand is petting him. lol

I usually brush everyday when I have a bunny that’s molting and gently pull off loose fur. I also give some petromalt according to my vet’s directions. But then again, my bunnies have always like to be brushed ;P

I try to brush at least twice a day during the molting. Sammy tolerates it if I pet her face with one hand and brush with the other. She’ll usually puddle down if the face rub is good enough. Be gentle with the comb and go in the direction of the fur only – for most it’s front to back. Also, my hairbuster bothers her less if I comb with the tines angled, rather than straight on her fur, so it’s not so much the tips poking her like a rake would. Does that make sense? Need pix?

How do I know when molting is? Does that just mean shedding? lol.

Is petromalt acceptable to use on bunnies on your own? My female has poo strung together. Actually she often does even though she eats lots of hay.

I’m good on the brushing technique. SAB taught me and I practiced there when I went to pick them up =).

Yeah, you can buy it at the store, just as long as your rabbit isn’t a baby. The cat version of Petromalt is the exact same thing as the one for rabbits. The instructions are on the back, I normally give once week and when bunny is molting every couple days. Bunnies love the taste so they think they’re getting a treat (:
