I just ordered some apple twigs for my Olive, and they came in the mail today.  Olive did start chewing on one, but then gave up.  Perhaps because her Highness is deigning to rest a bit.  Just wondering if anyone else’s bunnies like them.

Are they fresh, or dried?  I think that might make a difference.  Don’t know anyone with an apple tree so that I could try out the difference.  Sigh.  I was really hoping she’d go for them!

They are dried. Like little branches?

All three of my rabbits react the same way to apple twigs. They look like they’ll be interested nibble a bit and then that’s the end of that. Anything made from Willow though is a completely different story!

Couldn’t even get my bun to sniff them, absolutely no interest

Cinnabun nibbled at it a few times but ignored it after that.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who spends money on stuff rabbits won’t touch.

Mine were only slightly interested in the dried apple twigs that I bought, but they lost interest fairly quickly. I put the rest of the twigs away in case they might have more interest at a later date. I guess I should put some out now and see if their opinion of them has changed.

I get apple branches/twigs from my Grandparents farm (my Mom owns it now)- the trees are NOT treated with anything ever. I cut fresh branches- and fill up pillowcases and let them dry. Then I take them out- all the leaves will fall off then, and cut them into about 6 inch pieces. My bunnies LOVE them- they eat all the bark off. I have a box of branches to give them- and I had to start a box of “naked” sticks as they are pain to throw in the bag with the litterboxes as they poke holes in the bag.
It takes them a day or 2 but the branches are chewed completely bare- and it almost leaves like a fine sawdust. very cute and they love it.

Mine don’t care for the apple twigs, but they love the willow ones .

Mine LOVE the apple twigs that I get from the pet store. Stormy proceeds to chew them immediately until there is no bark left. The ones I get are from an apple orchard in Quebec. I was a bit concerned about pesticides (I checked their website but it didn’t say if they don’t use pesticides) so I ordered some organic ones online. They were much cheaper and when I got them they were huge and gorgeous but the buns hated them. No bun would touch them. Have no idea why. I ended up giving them all to the buns at the shelter.

Is anyone else worried about pesticides on the twigs?

Katnip- Can I place an order?

Olive may decide she likes them eventually. I’ve bought quite a few things that Hodari ignored or flatly refused to play with, but eventually she has changed her mind about them all and actually had fun playing with them. Apple sticks are not real popular, but she likes to chew the bark and toss them around sometimes. She likes the thin ones much better because she can eat them like a piece of hay. The thick ones require her to pin them against the floor in order to chew them. Sometimes I hold them for her so she has some resistance. She doesn’t like it when they roll too much.

She seemed better about the second twig I gave her and gnawed off most of the bark.  I guess that’s all I can hope for, she of the delicate tastebuds….
