Hi I normally take my rabbits to the vets to get there toe nails clipped. When i had 1 rabbit they never charged me now with 2 rabbits i get charged and i was going to start clipping there nails to save money. What are the best nail clippers to use on rabbits?

I prefer the scissor style – I have ones meant for small animals, but those made for cats are good too.

That is kinda like the one I have and it works well. Remember to get some styptic powder so if you accidentally clip too high you can stop the bleeding.

you did not mention if you are comfortable clipping nails or not- if you are not I would recommend taking them into the vet next time but have them show you how to do it yourself. Most vets are more than willing to instruct their clients on how to do so.

With that said- I like the scissor type- and I expect to spend about $8-$10 for a good quality pair. Sharpeness matters- if they get dull or are purchased dull they “crush” the nail a bit before they cut it and that can hurt the pet. They won’t be like knife sharp- but they should have a good edge to them.
Also if they come with a “nail guard” which is supposed to prevent the nail from going too far through- I move that off to the side- I do not think it is helpful at all. Here is a pic of a pair similiar to what I prefer- different brand though. But any good quality cat/small dog clippers should work fine.

I have never done this before and i was a little nervous before. I think on my male rabbit i wouldn’t be nervous because he is so laid back. Now my female maybe so I might have to have the vet show me how. thanks
