I noticed 2 days ago that Oreo’s fur was looking a little thin on one side above her back leg. She seems to be shedding all over since she has clumps of fur sticking out but this one spot has much more fur sticking out than the rest of her body. I just finished brushing her and the fur just kept coming out of that spot! I investigated the skin underneath the thinning fur and the skin isn’t red or flaky but I did notice some weird pigmentation. Where the fur is thin, the skin is pink but then there is a distinct change and the skin looks black. Is this just normal shedding or do we need a vet visit? We literally just moved this weekend and I wasn’t plan on making a vet visit for another few months but I can find one asap if this looks like something more than shedding.

Sorry the photos are a little blurry, I always have a hard time with the flash on her black/white fur

ETA: The photos make her skin look redder than it actually is. Her skin is definitely more white/pink than it turned out to me in the picture

I’ve actually seen what a baby rabbit looks like. Their skin is pink.. with some black parts on the skin. I’ve seen it on Chacha too. I have overplucked at times >.>

Chacha is going through a shed right now as well.. jeez, do the girls plan their sheds at the same time?

The black is her new fur coming in. If you look again in a few days it won’t look like skin, instead it’d be really short fur there. Looks like normal shedding to me, especially if you’re noticing other shedding. Your move may have even triggered her molt.

Looks like Leopold does when he’s shedding heavily.

I didn’t even know that could happen! Glad to hear its just normal shedding, that blackness on her skin really freaked me out

Yep, looks normal to me! Otto has a weird spot like that going on right now.
