So I often find poos outside of my girl’s litterbox, possibly because it seems a little small for her to relax in. I’m going to be getting a larger pan soon.

Today I got home from work and found my girl had pooped in her water dish?! What! So I dumped it out and washed it and everything, but I realized it looked like it was the right distance from her food dish that perhaps she went when she was eating her morning pellets.

I know buns poo when they eat hay. Should I try making some hay basket type container to hang next to her litter box for her pellets and veggies to try to keep her from pooing outside of the box? This paired with a few random poo butts is making me pretty stressed out :/

It sounds like a bigger litterbox is needed. I used cat litterboxes for all 3 of my bunnies as the petstore rabbit versions are just too small. They hay basket is a good idea- as my bunnies spend quite a bit of time in their litterbox munching their hay. You probably could do something similiar for pellets and veggies- but those do not seem to take as long to eat as the hay does. The hay is more time consuming and jaw working typically than pellets or greens.

Thanks for the info! My girl’s in a cat box, but I guess I underestimated the size of bun bun when I picked it out

Two of my guys poop outside their box no matter how many they have and how large they are but they do pee inside it so i have learnt to live with it, Every now and then Rufus will find a corner he likes and form a little mound but I vaccum it up and then there will be nothing for weeks and then i will find another little mound in some random place!

LOL! I giggled a little. I have seen my rabbit leave a poopy in her water dish. Your story reminded me of my experience heheh! Also, having a large litter box will help

My rabbit still poops right outside of her litter box, she associates hay with pooping. Poop is pretty easy to clean up, so it doesn’t really bother me.

It’s also possible the poop was kicked into the water dish, especially if she’s in a smaller cage and there’s not a lot of space.

Foomin I empathize with you, my new bun refuses to use the litter box for poops. I also noticed that he poopers when he eats his pellets, so yesterday I moved them by his litter box. He must have not liked that one bit because when I came home for lunch I saw that he had knocked over the bowl. Iit was on its side and he must have backed his little butt into and and peed because some of it was soggy and stuck to the side it was laying on… -.- so Im personally really at a loss on what else to do other than wait and see if he grows out of it. I wish you luck and if you come up with some ideas I would love to hear them so I can try it with my bunneh ^_^
