I have heard a rumour that rabbits that are bred when moulting result in a offspring moulting continusly … anyone else hear of this?

        thoughts? SOLUTIONS??

        THANKS

        FEE  X

EEK what is that on the bunny ? It scared me!!

Molting is normal. Some rabbits will shed a lot, some just won’t. My rabbit has been shedding like crazy.

I’m not sure about the breeding thing.

            Breeding thing is a myth.

If you continuously brush, yes, more fur will keep coming off. Bunnies will shed when stressed, in fear, excited, etc. They have a kind of fur that will release itself as a defensive thing, allowing them to escape predators. So brushing lots will just keep pulling out fur. You may want to ease up if it’s that and not an actual molt.

Also, some buns will shed lightly all year round, other do huge sheds periodically. I have buns of each variety

Totally a myth. Nothing that an animal does during it’s life affects their genes or offspring in a genetic way…think about old legends where the bear has a small tail because he used it to fish and it got bitten off so his babies had small tails-it just doesn’t work that way  The genes you have, you have when you’re born and that’s what is passed on

Brush more often to get the loose fur out and you’ll see a bit less. However my Rupert seems to shed steady all year with two big molts and that’s just him. I just got used to a faceful of fur when kissing him

Welcome!! Your bunny is beautiful and looks so nice and sweet and gentle with your son there

                              Not pudgy, cuddly! He;s lovely!

Could it be diet related? I am suspicious sometimes that things I feed the buns sometimes cause a bit of shedding but I’ve never been able to find info on it.
I used to give sunflower seeds and pepitas as treats and suspected them. Also, rolled oats are on my suspect list.

What a cutie. Bigger than the cat! I love the disapproving look on his face in the second pic. Big, beautiful ears.

I nearly forgot about this. I wanted to follow up on the sunflower seeds thing. I went to a rabbit meeting about 2-3 weeks ago hosted by a lady who has had 40+ years
experiences with rabbits. At the meeting she did mention some foods that cause “the rabbits system to heat” (I think this is like horses????) and oil seeds like sunflower and linseed do this and
can cause shedding. She even mentioned it is a trick used before a rabbit show to get them to have a nice new shiny coat in. I vaguely recall that things like linseed is
used to trigger angoras to moult so the wool can be harvested.

So for me, that was all confirmation that some things in the diet do effect shedding.
