Hi, okay, I have a holland lop buck, and I was wondering how I can make a bond between me and my rabbit. About two days ago, I was walking to his hutch, and he was all normal and everything, until I came up to him( walked not runned) and then he became all jumpy. He went downstairs in less than a secound, knocked over his hay basket, and swerverd his pellet bowl(not tipped). And then went upstairs, super fast. I opened the door and pet him and then he was perfectly normal, and came out of his private room. And then today, I came to his hutch at seven o’clock in the morning, he was upstairs in his hutch( at the window part not the private room) he ran into his private room, and then went downstairs and seemed like he was trying to get to me. What does this mean?

Hi Lizzy – is his hutch inside the house or outside the house?

Then the first step would be to bring him in When bunnies are kept outside, they don’t get the contact needed to bond with their slaves. And predators outside would keep them constantly on alert for something trying to eat them. Right now, you probably look like a big predator to him.

Indoor bunnies are a joy to be around. Watching them run and jump and binky is just too much fun!

Yes, definitely bring him inside – rabbits who are kept outside just don’t live as long and are less likely to be social. He’s probably scared of you like MB said.

Is bringing him inside an option for you?

Is there a reason why you can’t have your rabbit indoors?

I’ve found that by having an indoor rabbit, I have created a really tight knit bond with her. I have also seen her personality flourish (you will be surprised by how much life they have) and I wouldn’t change that for the world.

after reading your profile, your bunny is reaching sexual maturity and so some of that behavior of wanting to get to you may be how he is acting out his hormones. You might want to see if he would get some of that energy out on a toy bunny. As far as bonding, I do agree you have a better chance at doing that when your bunny is indoors with you.

If you let us know why you can’t have your bunny indoors, we may be able to help you find solutions.
