Hi there I have a bunny who  weighs 6lbs. I have a large cat litter box. My rabbit use to sleep in it but she doesn’t anymore since she has a bigger cage. I was wondering if her litterbox is to big because I have been using Equine Fresh and I have read other stories where people say this litter is suppose to last a few months and a 40lb bag only last me 1 month? thanks

How much are you putting in the box? With a litter like equine fresh, you only need a thin layer on the bottom.

I use the large cat boxes for all my buns. Yes, even 1.5lb Monkey.

I agree with MB. Only just a thin layer.

I use wood stove pellets, and I use a thin layer, and the pellets poof up. It is changed every 4 days.

Chacha bun has a large cat box in her condo.. she loves it.

WOW yup sounds like you are going through a lot of litter! Agree with the thin layer-especially if you are changing often. So if your changing every day you could put in a really thin layer.

By a “thin layer”, what I think most of us mean is a “single layer” of pellets. I line the bottom of the box with a couple sections of newspaper and that makes clean-up easier, and excess pee is absorbed. Once the box is put back together, you can clearly see the newspaper underneath the pellets.

I change it everyday and I do cover the whole litterbox. Is it ok to just put litter in 2 of the corners? Then put hay every wehre else?

I would just use a very thin layer on the bottom, as the others recommended, and clean it out less often. You can try putting litter only in the corners, if that works for your bunny.
