So I know a few members on here do ad lib pellets, because their bun doesn’t gorge themself on them.  Zeus is pretty much the same I think.. when I give him a meal of greens, a treat, fresh hay, and pellets, the pellets is always the last thing he eats.  And he often leaves leftover pellets between meals.  He only gets 1/4-1/3 cup per meal.

Can ad lib pellets be done in a safe, healthy way for buns who aren’t pellet hoovers?  It would be nice to just leave a dish of pellets in his cage all the time for him to pick at.  What do you think? .

Oh, and he’s on Kaytee Timothy Complete pellets.

I would just give him the rationed amount and then just refill it with that amount as he eats them rather than a free for all amount.

That’s what I’m doing now.  But I was just wondering if some buns will eat similar amounts if offered ad lib.  Like “self rationing” or whatever the term is, for the life of me I can’t remember the correct phrase. .  But like how most cats will only eat when hungry, and won’t gorge.

I imagine that some rabbits would. I’ve never experimented with my rabbits on this. I guess you could try but I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t just keep doing as your are doing as that seems to be working okay and you aren’t wasting any pellets.
