Hi everyone, I’m new here. I just got custody of my bunny a few days (she was living with my roommate’s younger sister since my landlord in my college town wouldn’t allow me a pet). Her parents gave me their left over supplies with included a huge bag of Carefresh. However I noticed that Momo (my mini rex) eats more of her litter than her actual pellets; I decided to try a new litter that hopefully handles odors a bit better and maybe to encourage Momo to eat her food and not her toilet paper

At Walmart I got a bag of Feline Fresh which is 100% pine pellets, supposedly dust free. I saw Feline Pine as well but since I don’t have a car, carrying a 20lb bag home seemed a bit out of the question. The Feline Fresh bag was only 7 lbs so I got that instead. Is it also alright to use? It seems so to me but I just wanted to double check  Thanks!

As long as it doesn’t have any added odors/clumping agents, it’s fine.

carefresh is also safe for the bunny to eat.. for me it seems like it works the best! I have no odor in my house at all! But if it doesn’t clump then thats good!

I haven’t heard of Feline Fresh, but yes, it needs to be free of odor controlling elements. But the good news is that Feline Pine is sold in my local grocery stores in small bags – I got it once for $5. I think you can check out your pet supplies aisle in the grocery store for it.

BTW, your bunny may look like she’s eating the litter but it’s possible that she’s rummaging in it and coming up chewing, but what she’s eating is a cecal. That’s their own special poo (I know, gross) that is made up of nutrients they excrete themselves and then recycle by eating again. If your bunny is healthy, you may never catch her eating one, but often it’s visible, smells pungent, then disappears (got eaten). They are vital to their health.

I think it is a way for wild bunnies to survive in long winters when food was scarce.

If you want my opinion, i would consider using Feline Pine original. I know it can be a drag carrying the bag from Walmart to your place but it’s a type of litter that from my experiences, works allot better then any paper based litter i have used. Here is a trick i learned and use from now on. If it says “Scoopable” on the bag label, stay away from it.
