I just wanted to post how I feed my bunny, to get some opinions on if I’m doing it right or not. Or if there are better ways I could be doing it.

In the morning around 9 or 10am I clean out her cage and put fresh hay near the clean litter for her to nibble on throughout the day. I might feed her a few treats throughout the day, if I’m eating something she might like. For example if I eat an apple, I’ll giver her a slice. At night around 8 or 9 pm is when I give her her veggies (1 cup) and pellets (1/4 cup). By morning her food is all gone. I’m wondering if I should be giving her more food or is she getting enough. She is about 4 months old.

That sounds really good! I’d only add to that adding more hay throughout the day to encourage her to eat more, and that’s only if she’s not eating a large amount Otherwise sounds great

At four months old she really needs to be getting more pellets since she is still growing. House Rabbit Guidelines suggest unlimited until they are at least 7 months old so I would up the amount of pellets.

Content sounds good. I agree that some more pellets would be good at this point. About 1/8 to 1/4 cup is what she’ll be given as an adult.

I prefer to feed pellets and veggies at separate times. Since one is processed and one is fresh, they digest at different rates and I feel that having a time between aids in digestion. I feed veggies in the morning and pellets in the evening.

I only give my growing bun about a 1/4 cup of pellets a day too. When I was giving unlimited pellets he wasn’t eating as much hay. Should I be upping my pellets too??

I would Malp, I see he’s only 4 months old, is that correct. You don’t have to necessarily do unlimited but they do need more pellets as they are growing and they have a higher metabolism than an adult.

Still measure the amount. Give a 1/2 cup and see how they do with that amount. (It’s always a good idea to measure out pellets, so if at any point the rabbit stops eating, you can dump the pellets back into the measuring cup and accurately determine how much has been eaten.)

I use a 1/8 cup scoop for the pellets, so I always know how much I’m feeding.

Ok, I will up the pellets to half a cup.

I was told by the rescue I adopted Tillie from to feed unlimiited pellets. She also gets cilantro, carrots, sugar snap peas, redleaf and parsley. I had read that no veggies until a bit older, but the rescue said veggies was perfectly fine. She seems to be doing well on all she has eaten so far.
