Hello, I have a what I was told a mini rex and I have kept her in since Ive had her .I want to buy her a really nice outdoor hutch with a yard on the bottom but I am scared of her getting too hot . I plan on bringing her indoors at night and during storms .When I have put her outside before she seems to pant really hard my question is how well do they tollerate heat ? i live in Louisiana and the past few days it has been 102 during the day will she be okay outside ?Thanks in advance.

102 is WAY too hot out there. Rabbits are very susceptible to heat stroke. In those temps, it is far better to keep her in. Really, the max temp they should be in is 80.

I agree with Monkeybun – absolutely not. Even at night with heat like that during the day, I don’t think it’s going to cool down to an acceptable level to keep her outside. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for her.

even 80 with humidity is dangerous,, crank that a/c
if they start panting, you need to get them into cooler temps immediately.

Lol- yeah, this is one of the few places where people don’t think you’re crazy for keeping your house climate controlled for bunnies. I set up the AC in the living room window as soon as it got hot here, cuz my bunnies hang out in the kitchen/living room. But the bedrooms have yet to get AC’s installed. Everyone is miserable except me- I sleep on the couch to be near my bunnies :p.

It’s difficult for rabbits to be kept outside during the summer months at all. It’s simply too hot in most places, if not temperature than humidity and blazing sun increase the danger. You could potentially have an outdoor space for nice spring and fall days once it starts to cool down, but Louisiana sounds like it’s far too hot.
