soooo… I bought these Alfalfa Chews for Tait last week as a treat because I’m not giving him Alfalfa Hay anymore, just Alfalfa Pellets. I don’t know what possessed me because I never buy any Living World products. Anyways I just noticed tonight while pulling one apart that is is like 50% wood and I found a plastic string through a couple of them, eeek. This totally freaked me out because he has already eaten about a third of the package. I sent the company an email about this because the only ingredient that is listed is alfalfa hay, so I have no idea what kind of wood this is or if it is treated. Plus the obvious fact that plastic should never be in there. Heres hoping they reply!

Has anyone else had anything like this with Hagen/Living World products?

I’ve heard that Hagen products are very low quality I hope that you took the chew from bunny.

oh yeah, they went straight into the garbage. I don’t want to even give them to the goats

I usually don’t buy Hagen because of that, but they were the only ones at the time. Went back 3 days later and saw 3 different brands of course *eye roll*

Oxbow makes timothy cubes also. Not many brands offer timothy cubes, they are usually just alfalfa in the stores.

Well not many small animal brands make cubes that are timothy. Head on down to any livestock feed store (I have no idea big box brand name livestock store for the US but I know you got ’em)-you can get a horse quality (re: Highest) timothy cubes-something along the lines of 55lbs for 16$…even if you throw out some it’s still a bargain. But the ones in pet stores for small animals are alfalfa and overpriced.

Living world is yuck. I like their bowls though! But good stuff it went in the garbage.

Yeah, I hear ya. I just order 15 lbs of hay from another website *shifty eyes*. Then I saw that BB got wheat hay! It’s not worth it to just buy one bale of hay, so I have to wait until I can spend another $50-60 on hay. Boo!

haha I sleep with ear plugs so I don’t hear it. I was giving the cubes at bedtime to get him to willingly go to his house

I’ve been trying to buy all my hay locally, but it seems no one wants to sell less than 50 bales at a time

LOL!! Well if you are in Western Canada somewhere you are probably tripping over livestock stores

THAT I can drown out. It’s when everyone in that room (Rupert, Kahlua and pigs) start going bonkers running around rattling things and (now that we have pigs) wheeeking in the middle of the night. THAT wakes me up.
And you know the drill…stomp over turn on lights to see what is going on. Everyone is looking verrrry innnocent…
