I have read on a few websites that you can feed rabbits small amounts of mashed potato…but I would have thought that it would be really bad for them..? What is your opinion on feeding it? (dont worry im not planning on doing it unless its 100 % ok for them)

I haven’t heard of feeding mash potatoes but you are right that they are not good for them — potatoes in general are high in starch and I would avoid it.

Check out our veggie/fruit list  (created by the HRS headquarters health coordinator, and I keep in touch with her regarding changes and concerns so it is pretty up to date) – it also includes the foods to avoid https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/Diet/VeggieList/tabid/144/Default.aspx

Yeah thats what I thought. I know they are bad for dogs, so I dont see how they could be much better for a rabbit..

A good rule of thumb in many different situations is: When in doubt, don’t.

If it sounds wrong, it probably is. She won’t miss it. Give her a nice carrot to munch instead. More taters for you.

If they are refering to a potato- I would think it would be a sweet potato as opposed to a regular potato. But still something to avoid unless directed otherwise by a vet.

I’d say noooo and also -when people prepare mashed potato-they cook the potato and then add butter, and all sorts of seasonings and oils. Totally not ok. So yeah…the one drawback to the internet is ANYONE can put anything on it. So you need to keep a critical eye for stuff like that

I was reading in a small animal nutrition book at work that potatoes and the peels are toxic?? It wasn’t exactly a new book so is that totally wrong?

I don’t think potatoes are toxic, but certainly the roots and eyes are (to anyone). Peels might be…?

Better to be safe than sorry and just not feed potatoes of any kind to the bunnies.
