Before we got Momo spayed, we had an issue with her peeing on one of us, usually my husband, practically every single day. After the spay she stopped doing it for a few weeks, with only a couple accidents. These past few days that behavior is beginning to rear it’s ugly head again. It is making it really difficult to transition her to having more time out of her pen. She is also starting to leave her poops scattered all over the room again too when she is out. Another thing she quit doing for several weeks after the spay. Any ideas on why this is happening and how we can fix it? I really want her to have more out time.

Could it be because of spring? It seems even fixed rabbits can display some hormonal behaviours during certain seasons.
As to fixing it, I’m not entirely sure…other then to try usual litter training tricks.
When she is using the box while she’s out, you could reward her or just give verbal praise. Encourage her in a positive way. When (or if) you can pick when she’s about to pee while sitting on you, have a box nearby and put her in it and again praise if she pees in it.
The only other thing is to restrict her time out temporarily until habits improve or this phase passes if it is due to the season.

Lucy did this right after she was spayed. Honestly, it took a good couple of months to fully kick the habit. Luckily, peeing stopped within a month or so, but the poo-ing took a little longer.

I got like, 5 litter pans and scattered them where she would typically have her accidents (or on purposes, depending!). I got the pans from the dollar store, the kitty ones. I put a lot of treats and hay in each. Any time she looked like she was poo-ing (she gets this…look, it’s weird) I’d pick her up and move her. Sometimes she was in the middle of a deuce, sometimes she wasn’t. Either way, she’d sit there for a few, then hop out. Even if she didn’t do anything, I still praised her like she just took a golden doodie.

If she’s still peeing on you guys, keep a box like, RIGHT by you. When she starts to pee, put her and hold her (gently obviously) in the box until she’s done. Then praise her, because the last behavior was peeing in the box, so she’ll be excited that she got praise for peeing in a box.

Lucy still occasionally will drop a few excitement poos, or she’ll drop a few right outside the cats box, because it irritates the cat.

Hopefully something will work, I know it’s rough With Lucy I was still at my parents house, and my dad didn’t really understand completely, so in addition to trying to re-potty train my rabbit, I had my dad in my ear WHY IS SHE PEEING AND POOPING GAAAAH. She’ll get there again Hang in there

Well spaying is awesome for health-and not spaying is awful for health and litter training and behavior. But spaying does not a litter trained rabbit make So since she was sort of in the habit of ‘accidents’ pre-spay it sounds like she’s just not fully litter trained.

So instead of focusing on -her girly bits-focus on training. Remember-animals do what works. So if something gets them what they want-they are more likely to do that thing. So reinforce when she uses the litter box. Act like she’s never been fully litter trained and start from scratch. Don’t be afraid to put down more then one litter box. If she pees in a corner put a box there. It’s more about the place then the box (my rabbit would pee in a corner whether her box was there or if I had it out to clean. So put boxes where she’s going, give her a raisin when she toilets properly and clean clean clean those accidents. A potty smells means its a potty. Only let her out in one room and supervise. Once she’s got it-your good. You can remove boxes and let her have more room-and work your way up

Thanks for all of the input. I have been noticing that aside from getting my poor husband, she has a penchant for blankets. It sucks because she loves to dig and scoot blankets. But after a session of that, she pees on it. Probably just marking it I imagine. However, she will not use a blanket I put down specifically for her. She likes the other blankets. And if not the blankets it is the furniture. I clean that with a vinegar/water solution. Maybe putting an extra box in the living room will help when we see her go. And yeah, she is only out in one room under supervision.
