Is it ok to give bunnies the vegetables that are listed in the ‘feed only a couple times a week’ column if your buns are ok with it? If they poo fine, does it matter that the pee changed colors due to the vegetables being fed?

For treats, is it ok to give, for example, 5 slices of apples, which is over a couple tablespoons, if it is only given once a couple of weeks (for 2-3lb’ers)?

Since you are only supposed to give a couple tablespoons, how do you train with treats? You would quickly run out of treats wouldn’t you? Two tablespoons is very very little…

Hi, what list are you referring to for the veggies?

For treats, think of whatever it is that you give your rabbit as a candy bar and I don’t mean a jumbo :~) It should be small and while a slice is very subjective, 5 slices sounds like too much. I think you can treat in small amounts daily.

When you say training, can you clarify what you mean.

Shameless plug: BB sells “organic snack crackers” that my rabbits go insane for. I like them because I can break them off into 1/4’s or sometimes more if I’m dedicated enough. I give each of my rabbits one whole cracker a day, but they get 4 little pieces… if that makes sense.
The other thing I like doing is using the peels of carrots as treats. They could have quite a few of these, meaning more opportunities to train.

I think it should be okay to give bunnies the vegetables that are listed in the ‘feed only a couple of times a week’ column, more often than that, if they are doing fine with those veggies. Urine color can change due to ingesting certain foods, but that’s normal.

Five slices of apple at one time is a good bit, and might cause too much of a sugar overload. I think it would be better to give one slice, and you could give it more often. If you are using it to train, you can dice it up into very small pieces, which will make it seem like you have more. You can also train with favorite veggies, like cilantro or what ever the bunnies really like. Leave their favorite veggie out when you are feeding them their regular greens, and only give the favorite one when you are trying to train them. Then you can add that veggie back in to their regular diet when you are finished with the training.

Oh, peel carrots! Good idea. Can chop those even smaller but, they snubbed carrots before. May have been scared though.

The occasional veges are things like kale, broccoli, etc that are in the vitamin A lists.

Right now I am only “training” for pets, sitting on lap, and Teach ‘N Treat. I’d like to eventually do “tricks” like they do with clicker training. I really don’t care for tricks per say, but I like doing them for bonding with animals and having set goals. I have been using pellets but it’s not that good for the stubborn one so I’d like to explore other kinds of “treats” as motivation. Have not noticed any favorite veges either. I have other treats (apple cookie from the BB store) but I rarely give them (once every other week); it’s too big and hard, maybe I should hammer it?

I give one raisin a day too much apples could equal a chubby bunny, so I would give a mininum for a treat.

I use pellets as treats for training. My buns love them and it’s easy to feed a lot without having to take much out of their daily amount. I’ll use dried fruit as high value treats, but they don’t get those very often.
