  Ha, about a week ago I picked HIM up and noticed two teeny pink jellybean shaped lumps down there. At first I was like… wtf is that? Then I realised. SHE is actually a HE! Haha! So, I’m guessing he’s right about the five month mark now and is going to get neutered not spayed!
  
  So. Now I’m gonna change his name. I’m thinking… Thane!

  hehe i’m glad we chose a gender neutral name for rue. my three year old is confused enough by suddenly calling “her”, “him”, i can’t imagine how she’d handle having to change the name, too!
  
  i was surprised and amused when i discovered rue’s jellybeans. but on the plus side, a neuter is cheaper than a spay!

  I knew we’d never be able to confirm our bunny’s sex by ourselves, especially since she had become squirmy, so we just waited until she went to the vet to be spayed/neutered. The vet got a quick glimpse before taking her away for surgery and told us we had a female. My husband had been alternating between the male and female pronouns for more than a month; he said he wanted to be right at least part of the time. Lol.
  
  Hope the surgery goes well for your little bun, Thane, or whatever you decide to call him. At least the neuter will save you a little money and Bunny’s recovery should be quicker.

  I wish this was rabbits and not a gerbil cartoon- but gerbils can be difficult to sex when weaning age unless you look at them at a certain young age and see which colors have nipples (only female gerbils have nipples).

  Same thing happened with Huckles, but in reverse. I didnt realize until I took “him” to the vet to get neutered. When I returned they said” “he” is a “she” so we spayed her instead.” I felt like such an idiot because I didnt know the breed, the age, the sex… all I knew was that it was a rabbit and it was black hahah

  Actually before I read “Gerbil restrooms” at the bottom, I thought that WAS a bunny in the cartoon. One with short ears, a longish tail and a big nose! LOL love it

  Fortunately, our bunnies do not care if we call them he or she, him or her, Susie or Stephen… They’re not gonna come when called anyways… lol.

  Katnip, I love that cartoon! I had baby gerbils a couple times and they were fairly difficult to sex. Once they got older though – wow, the males were obvious! lol

  I would not be surprised if one of the BB members that is pretty good at photoshop- alters this photo to be rabbits instead. But that member skilled in photoshop would certainly not be me. : )

  Hahaha, that’s true. See I had a hamster named Link and it didn’t go too well. I think I’mma stick with Thane though.
