I feed my rabbit dry food twice a day and today when I went to feed him the second time there was still roughly half of the food left when normally there is none. He’s shedding right now, I’ve been brushing him several times a day. Is this normal?

Well, normally you should only feed your rabbit once a day. You should feed her about 1/4 cup or even 1/3 cup or 1/2 cup. depending on her age, breed and size. I don’t think that the shedding has anything to do with it though.

What else do you feed her? How much pellets? Does she get unlimited hay?

Some people feed their rabbits twice a day, but the portions cut up. I don’t see anything wrong with that, as long as your rabbit is getting the proper amount of pellets.

Have you tried oat hay? It helps with pushing fur through the gut

Ditto LoveChaCha — Feeding more than once a day is fine (as long as the appropriate portions are divided out). Hay his extremely important during this time. Your answers to Sarita’s questions will help us help you.

He weighs 7 1/2 pounds so I feed him 1/4 cup in the morning and at night. He finally ate all his food last night but he hasn’t eaten anything all day today. He has unlimited hay. Also his droppings are smaller?

Have you fed him anything out of ordinary? My rabbit is sooooo sensitive to certain changes in diet. I gave him A LEAF of baby spinach yesterday and his poops were about 1/4 of the size they normally are! That’s all I could think of in regards to smaller poops. :\
Also, do you know what brand pellets you’re giving to him?

He is eating now but still not as much and hasn’t been running around, just laying. He seems kind of grumpy
