So I took Merry and Banner to the vet for Merry’s monthly tooth check and Banner’s first visit.  Banner’s doing great, but we’re not sure what’s going on with Merry.

Side note: Banner was SO cute.  He was squirmier than normal and really didn’t want to be picked up, and kept running away from the vet to come put his front paws on my shoulders to stand up (helped the doc check his hocks lol) and randomly gave me kisses!

Back to the less fun stuff.  Merry’s poops have been getting less frequent and possibly smaller – and I’ve noticed that although she’s all about the treats and still eating hay, she’s not really finishing her veggies or pellets.  Perfect time to have a scheduled vet appt.

Her left molar is a little long (according to dr not enough that she HAS to file it, but longer than she likes to see – and only the left side) and she was gassy.  So to err on the side of caution, she gave me some metoclopramide (Reglan) [.07cc 2/day] and some metacam for her discomfort [.02cc 1/day].

This is my first foray into maybe statis land so I’m a wee bit shaky thinking about it!  We’re going to keep her on the drugs through the weekend and on Monday if her eating has improved then woo hoo.  If it hasn’t improved it’s time to bring her back in to file her teeth.   Poor baby!

And holy COW what a pita to give her the medicine!

LOL I’ve had that happen before with Kokanee and with Noot. And I’ve heard of that too. I bet they are like “Momma oh momma don’t let the vet touch me! I *PROMISE* I will never eat carpet or the remote buttons EVER again!!”

Any chance you can slowly cut down treats to encourage her to eat more hay? It’s literally so important that, just like yours, if they eat less there is almost immediately teeth issues! Even if she is eating hay well the more the merrier

Sounds like you have it under control and your vet sounds very competent! I lol’d at the meds comment-they can sure be buggers about meds. What flavor is the metacam you have? I always have honey and I think it’s an aquired taste for bunnies

I didn’t know that Metacam came in flavors!!
She doesn’t get treats really – a sliver of banana and a sliver of apple…

Update – she pooped! yay! Ate her pellets, but not all of her greens, and I did see her eat some hay… I’m guessing it’s going to end up being her (expensive) tooth :-/

I think K&K is confusing metacam w/the metrolopramide – I would suggest that the vet file the molar and see if that helps. You would be surprised at how dental problems can cause stasis problems. What seems slight to your vet may be causing discomfort to Merry. I think I would ask her to start by filing this to see if that helps.

Metacam does not come in flavors – it’s got a funky honey flavor.
