I’ll be hanging out with Professor Scooter Beans, just reading or laying on the floor not moving, and he’ll come up to my hands or face and he gets a shock on his sweet little nose!  Same thing happens if his nose touches the x-pen.  He must be collecting a charge as he hops around on the carpet.  I’m thinking about buying some static gaurd spray that you use for clothes on the carpet.  Do you think the spray residue would be harmful to a bun?  Any other ideas that may help?  Thanks.

I don’t know about ingesting it, but it caused my old dog to go blind. Our house was broken into and Rocky was a guard dog and obviously wouldn’t let them go very far so they grabbed the first thing they saw and sprayed his face. so watch the spray, not that you would spray it when bun is around anyway

I try not to use any spray products around the bunnies since I am not sure what would or would not be harmful to them. I used to know a natural anti-shock measure, but can’t recall what it is now. But I do know that your relative humidity in your home has something to do with it.

And for some reason my mini rex is the one that gets zapped the most in my house. Poor bub. He is so irresistible to want to snuggle, but if I do he snaps, crackles and pops.
I think if I rubbed him on my head I could stick him to the ceiling. ^_^ lolz….

What about rubbing dryer sheets on the ground?

I wouldn’t use chemicals where bunny plays. I don’t about Professor Scooter Bean, but Porky like to groom the carpet sometimes.

The simplest non-chemical way to reduce static is to increase moisture and humidity. You could get a humidifier, or just mist the carpet very lightly before hopping time.

Funniest thing I’ve heard this week!  I can just imagine a room with a dozen mini rexes stuck to the ceiling!

But to the topic at hand, avoid spraying anything where the rabbit is hopping.  They can pick up the chemicals on their feet and ingest them during grooming.

Not spraying chemicals around bunny’s area makes complete sense; that’s why I was hesitant to do it.

(((I’m soooo sorry to hear about what happended to your dog, Malp_15.)))

It is very dry where we live and I can try the humidifier, but the house has a very open floor plan even though bunny only gets part of it, I’m not sure how well the humidifier will work in such a large area. I like the idea of using a spray bottle to mist the carpet; I’ll probably try that first. Thanks : )

I just googled, and there was this one suggestion that might be worth a try: “Another is to blow gently on the cat [rabbit] before you pet him. That will have the same effect as a humidifier, but very localized. This doesn’t work totally well, though.”

Now get Fiver down. Right now.

I googled natural static electricity methods and found this http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/el…icity.html not much helpful but increasing humidity-you could buy a humidifier or do what I’ve seen in alberta-put a wet sponge or glass of water by the air vents in the house

Or you could buy your bunny one of these

I ran a humidifier when Lolli has gotten stasticy and it works well. I just have a standard warm air one and would run it on low over night. It put out enough moisture for my living room/dining room area at my apartment. I figure any moisture you can put in the air will help. Poor boy! At least he’s still coming up to you! lol

That happened to Kate once, she came up to me and gave me bunny eskimo kisses and got a shock. She immediately went crazy and started zooming and binkying all over the room. I think she thought that she’d developed super hero powers.
