I had a giant fly make its way through our open door tonight.  I had it open because it was so cool and nice outside.

I tried to follow it to kill it, but it was too fast for me and is now hiding somewhere…

Of course, being paranoid, I started looking up fly strike.  Apparently it can happen within 24 hours!

Remy and Momo do not have soft stools or anything gross stuck to their rears.  Plus, the litterboxes were completely changed and sanitized today, since I’m going on that trip on Monday.

Should I worry at all, or will this fly just die on its only eventually without attempting to lay eggs in dangerous places?

        Ugh.

No, generally flystrike usually occurs with the poopy bottom and rabbits who are kept outdoors and in unsanitary conditions. As long as you keep their area clean, it is generally not a problem other than being a pest.

ah PHEW. I am such a goober… I actually stayed up in bed reading because I worried about that stupid fly. I was trying to go all Rambo with a damp towel, stalking around the apartment trying to find him, but the sneaker little scamp eluded me.

            Thanks, Sarita : )

Mosquitos transmit heartworm to dogs and cats- and even though my pets are on preventative- I go all “Rambo” when I see one in the house. So you are not alone!
