Sunny likes to pull his pellet & veggie bowls close to him, rather than inching forward.  Today was the first time I saw him do this with his water dish, which I always thought would be too heavy for him to do that.

Just wondering if anyone else’s buns do this act of laziness!lol

All the time! I stopped just stopped using pellet dishes because they pull it close and end up spilling it any way. So I just sprinkle the pellets around their cage/pen.

Zatanna does that but usually just to spite Buttercup who is trying to eat too or if I’m messing with stuff in the pen while she is trying to eat.

We have the same situation at PB and Z… Max will pull the pellet dish closer to him, and further from Meadow. So she has to inch closer. Then he will back-up and pull it back towards him. Then she will inch closer… They do this repeatedly until Max is backed into a corner.

Hodari has recently started doing this. It seems to be more about play than laziness, though. We have a plastic corner litter pan that we use exclusively as a hay trough. She has a great time pulling it closer to her, backing up, pulling it again, rummaging through the hay, tossing out the ones she doesn’t want, and digging through it wildly. Sometimes she drags it up to her tunnel and eats in privacy. Of course then she has to give it a couple of nose bumps when she wants out of the tunnel. The bowl in her cage is attached to the bars, and she uses a water bottle to save me from cleaning up really big messes. Because she loves to make messes.

Otto does this constantly! He doesn’t try to move the veggie bowls or water dish (too heavy and thick for him) but he does it with the pellet dish. It seems like he taught Hannah to do it (never saw her do it before they were bonded) and sometimes they’ll sit nose to nose, pulling the bowl closer, taking a bite, then chewing while the other one pulls it away. They’ll go back and forth like that for a while.

Otto will also do this if you try to hold the bowl in front of his face. Clearly I can’t get it close enough for him, so he tries to grab it and pull it.

If you find you have to scatter the food around it’s actually not bad for them. Sometimes a bunny that doesn’t get enough exercise, or is just bored, will do better by hunting and foraging for his food in his cage. Others love to redecorate. But all of them can be soooooo lazy.
