Baxter is full grown now and a pretty big boy. He doesn’t like to be picked up and will avoid it at all cost.. I usually take him to the vet to have his nails trimmed but they are sooo long now! I need to trim them myself. I don’t want to take him in until I schedule his yearly exam. It’s just too hot outside and the air in my car is non existant. One trip would be better for him. So, any tips on how to do this deed myself? He  won’t bit me if I pick him ip. The vet tech doesn’t seem to have an issue with him. I know how to trim th nails, how do I get him to let me is the issue? Any ideas?

ask a neighbor to come over for a few minutes to hold him up while u do the actual trimming.

You could try to “bunny burrito” him and clip them that way. Basically you wrap him up so he is secure and safe enough to trim his nails. This is how I trim all my bunnies nails, and its always worked for me and for many of the members here. BinkyBunny has a good detailed explanation of it here: https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/MonthlyMaintenance/tabid/64/Default.aspx

Either the burrito method or the trancing method-one is wrapping him up in a towel and the other is putting him on his back. That can be tricky and you do need to practice. For now, since they are long, try putting him up on a table so you can work easily and wrapping him up; Do just one foot each day and in four days with little effort you’ll have it done

What we do is I hold them in sort of sitting position with one hand under the front legs and the other cupping the bottom legs so you have good control of them. And then my boyfriend checks for the vein with one of those small keychain flashlights and clips. If they start to get squirmy before they are done we give them a break for a minute and then keep going. I’ve found it works best this way since my girls don’t really trance well and it’s hard to secure the burrito and clip at the same time. Just get someone you trust to be able to hold them correctly or to clip without hurting him.

Bunnies are strangely enough usually easier to handle when they’re in an unfamiliar place..you could place him on a bathroom counter or just somewhere he usually isn’t allowed to explore.

Peppypoo is right.  We always take them into the bathroom tub for haircuts and nail clippings and they become a lot less squirmy.  Makes clean up easier too.

I put my buns on a towel on the kitchen counter. They get lots of pets as I slide my hand under the target foot. Then I clip the nails on that foot relatively quickly with a “good girl/boy” for each nail, then lots of pets, move on to the next foot. Sometimes Rosie gets a little squirmy so I end up burrito-ing her.
