I am of the opinion that if I wouldn’t eat or drink it, I won’t give it to them So my buns get filtered water too

I agree with Monkeybun. It is a reasonable thing to do- anything that could increase water consumption is benefical to the bunny. Plus if you ever move you should have less trouble switching your bunny from “funky” water that you don’t like to drink- to “regualr” water that tastes normal- since you are using a filter and not acclimating your bunny to such a distinct water taste.

I was wondering this same thing to. I have another question though I noticed when i clean my buns water bowl and i go to wipe it that it has an orange film at the bottom. Is that from my tap water and if I switch to giving them purified water will that orange film go away?

I don’t think it goes away. I have that too, and it seems to be a build up sign that says it’s time for a more serious cleaning instead of the daily rinse.

By the way, room temperature water is actually better for their tummies than refrigerated, though tap cool is good too. A vet once told me that. Fridge may not hurt, but if there is any issue, do not hesitate to not chill the water. You can get a big old jug of cheap store bought water for your bunny if filtered is difficult or unavailable.

Well I woke up this morning and they were flushing my water lines so all the water was brown so I had to use the brita that had cold water from the fridge. I know i read an article saying in the summer time it is ok to have cold water keeps the buns cool. thanks

It is fine to use cold water- I would think that if your bunny does not like cold water- it won’t take too long for the water to get to room temperature. I fill my bunnies water bottles with cold tap water and it comes to room temp. I have not really noticed if they won’t drink the cooler water- they drink whenever they want to. So once a day refilling with cold and letting the water then reach room temp while in the bunny bowl or bottle should not be a problem unless you have a bunny with medical needs that it is important to do every possible thing to encourage water consumption. And in a case like that I think it would take experimentation to see what your bunny prefers to drink- tap or filtered, and cold, room temp or in between, etc.

My apartments have hard water, and an orange film gets all over the shower all the time. If you get orange films on stuff, definitely use a filtered water for drinking.

We’re on well water where I am, and it’s nasty enough when I have to take a shower in it. I have orange film everywhere, it’s especially bad after an earthquake…ANY earthquake. 0_o
I’ve always given my bunnies bottled water. We used to keep my goldfish in it too. THAT was expensive.

Mimzy used to love refrigerated water, but then I found it could cause tummy trouble, so it’s been room temp ever since. He likes to have his water a bit chilled on hot days, so I just refrigerate the bowls instead and put his water in them.

I wouldn’t dream of giving Dutchess anything but purified water.

                          . . . . .

                          I spoil her.

I was giving tap water for a bit. I use brita water from the pitcher now.

all my animals get tap water, but everyone drinks tap water so its not really an issue. I give tap cool water and my bun loves it.
