Samson’s belly feels really…balloony. Is that normal for a bunny? He’s pooping a ton, I did see a cecal thing but he didn’t eat it. He’s also active, running around, seems happy…

He may have some gas. Have him eat a lot of hay tonight and not as much of other stuff, and no treats. If you notice a smell, it was gas. Even if not, he will continue to poop a large pile which should make it go down. If not, it may be due to something else.

Hmmm OK. He doesn’t get treats, just free feed hay and pellets. Should I take the pellets out tonight? Oh you know what, I’m in the process of changing his pellets, I did 3/4 old and 1/4 new so maybe he’s adjusting to that? I just went an squeezed him a little, LOL. His belly isn’t tight, it’s just round. Like maybe the size of a baseball? a little bit bigger maybe?

two things come to mind- first- you want to have a fecal checked if you have not already.
And second- age and condition- healthy and worm free puppies and kittens even tend to have rounder bellies- they need to eat a lot to be so active and to grow so much. I would imagine the same is true for bunnies. When I got Schroeder he was approx 1 1/2 yrs old- he was on a poor diet and had a poor coat (compared to my other Mini Lop) and his body condition was a bit poor- I could feel his spine and ribs easier than my other Mini Lop and he had got a slightly bigger belly after he was with me for awhile eating a good diet. My vet thought he was fine and that his body needed to “equal out”- the food goes to the tummy and it takes time for the healthy muscle and fat to develop over the body. does that make sense?- his body needed time to utiilize the good food. And that is exactly what did happen- he grew in a plush coat that sheds like mad and has more of the stocky, solid Mini Lop body.

Katnip, that’s exactly what it reminds me of, a full puppy/kitty belly.

I haven’t taken him to the vet yet (hides!). He had an appt Friday, but my 3 year old got sick (nothing like getting puked on first thing in the morning!) so I had to cancel it. Hopefully this week I can get him in.

I’d say make a new appointment, but if it’s as Katnip described (and I think she’s right) you might let him out for a bit more exercise this week also. Nothing like a work out to burn fat and convert it to muscle, or to encourage a new growth spurt. It will also give you a chance to see if his behavior is normal and spunky.
Hope your daughter just has a 24 hr. bug.

I should also mention- that when I replied I was pretty sure that OneTwoThree had a youg bunny. If she had an adult bunny that she had owned for a long period of time- I would have other concerns about a round belly- mainly gas which would be uncomfortable and possibly an early sign of upcoming tummy troubles.
