Hi there my bun kamdyn is currently sick with cancer. He is on .3ml of metacam twice a day. When he first started out on metacam he was having mushy poop so the vet told me to give him some non fat plain yogurt just a little pinch. I did that and it worked but kamdyn hates taking it. I gave it for a while then quit because he was fine. Now lately he has been having some mushy poops that I have to give him a butt bath. I was wondering if there was something I could give him to stop the mushy poop?

Poor Kamdyn. Yogurt is really not recommended for rabbits. Ask your vet if they carry Benebac and see if that will help. It’s a probiotic.

May I ask why yogurt is not recommended for rabbits?

Dairy products are unnatural for adult rabbits and are quite high in protein. Something like Benebac can provide probiotics in an alternate form without the dairy.

Someone told me years ago that giving rolled oats to rabbits helps with diarrhea?

Well, your rabbit doesn’t really have “diarrhea” it’s called cecal dysbiosis. Really oats aren’t recommended either – I’m not sure why people think that oats help “dry” up diarrhea either.

Here’s a good article that explains cecal dysbiosis:

so i have been researching cecal dybosis and it says that if a rabbit has it it means that the rabbit has an underlying problem. The underlying problem is cancer so what should i do?

I also wanted to ask i give my bunny a butt bath by running warm water and sticking his butt underneath it. Is there another easier way to give a butt bath?

If you go to the very end of the article, there is a link that has a recommendation on how to do a butt bath that might help you.

I do butt baths, pretty much like you do run the water and fill a cup with water and pour it on the affected areas.

But that article has some different ideas and recommendations.
