So I don’t know how old Samson is. Pet store said 8-10 weeks, but people seem to think he’s smaller and younger, and I might agree, I looked at a pic of bunnies at 10 weeks and he just seems smaller. Here are some pics, I tried to put my hand in there for some relativity but it was hard to take pics LOL!

Anyway, my vet (recommended by the Rabbit.org site) said they do boys at 3 months, girls at 5 months. Is 3 months too young? I haven’t taken him in for his wellbunny yet, I was really hoping to just join the appts and get his initial exam and neuter done at the same time. But if he’s only about 7 weeks, then I would need to wait another month rather than just a week.

(don’t mind the brown bum, it’s a work in progress to get it clean)

Heehee, he’s so cute. As long as the males testicles have descended and this vet is experienced then he should be fine. You could certainly wait though a few more months (but don’t wait too long) – some vets do prefer to do rabbits at 6 months but most vets who have alot of experience neutering and spaying rabbits feel comfortable doing it sooner. So you should do what you feel is best :~)

They are hairless and quite visible for such small creatures.  Hehe.

Nope they will be gone! For a few days/weeks there will be an empty… sack? It shrinks. Haha Samson may be poofy enough that you won’t notice when he’s ready to be neutered. So you may have to do some inspections, especially when he starts to act out.

Any tips on getting his bum white? He had a couple gross poop smashes, and I’ve since brushed it out and trimmed the hair, but I haven’t figured out how to make it…not brown….

hehe. His little ears were all slicked back, he’s awfully cute that way. Is he scared like that? He doesn’t seem stressed, and I can groom him much easier that way then holding him the other way. Then I say ok and he rolls over and gets a couple more pets and then goes and plays.

My vet wants to do a full exam on all critters prior to a sterilization. They can tell you when will be a good time.

As for the cleaning- all you can really do is work on combing his bottom area to help clean the fur can get rid of any “debris”. As for the feet- as you probably know- there is really nothing that you can do other than provide ideal housing and it will resolve on its own. All my bunnies came with yellow feet- and now the two with white feet have green tinted feet from their hay. Much better to have hay stained feet than urine stained feet any day!
As for the neuter- when bunnies are neutered the vets make an incision and remove the testicles. And then I believe boy bunnies do have a layer of internal sutures (where boy cats do not) and the external incision is glued or sutured (or stapled). So the testicle sacks- scrotum- will still be there- and it will shrink in size. Most rabbit neuters will result in not seeing the scrotum anymore. Sometimes with dogs that have been neutered later in life- the scrotum shrinks but not completely. And they actually sell “neuticals”- implants for those owners that want to neuter their dogs but not have them look neutered. Gross and crazy but true.
As for what age he is- I have no idea how to tell. But I did get Griffin neutered at 4 months when his testicles dropped. But he is over 9 lbs full grown- and he was the devil about littertraining and I was desperate to neuter ASAP in hopes it would help. He used to pee outside his box on the tray of his dog crate cage- and not care if he flicked it everywhere, made a huge mess, or managed to pee over the edge so it ran under the crate too. Now he is so good and mellow it was hard to believe that he was that bad- my husband was so irritated with the mess that if there had been zero chance of it stopping he would have nagged me to get rid of him.
