is this a sign of perisites or babies are just this way.

Dandeal eats alot of alfalfa hay. I put hand fulls at the time in there I I have to do it at least 3 time a day or more. plus she has her pellets and timithoy hay chunks.

Is she eating way to much?, or is this about right for her.

That doesn’t sound like something to be concerned about. It’s great she’s eating her hay! I would recommend you also start giving timothy hay so it will not be completely unfamiliar when she’s taken off the alfalfa within the next several months. Hay is so important for their gut motility and teeth. Great job!

Babies eat quite a bit because they have a high metabolism and they are growing. Do try the timothy hay as well.

She is on the timothy hay chunks (the blocks) for her to chew on. are you saing I should get the regular timothy hay and mix with alfalfa hay? If so I can do that, I just thought the blocks would be better for her chewing and all.

Actually the hay is the best – it’s the chewing motion of the actually hay that helps the teeth – the blocks are great as far as toys and boredom busters but they don’t replace actually timothy hay.

Momo was an odd baby bun. Once I introduced her to timothy at close to 4 months, she totally snubbed her alfalfa. Even the vet found that one odd.

New 1, you should read this-
                    https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/Diet/tabid/60/Default.aspx

                    and this
                    http://rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html#babies.

They both cover the basics of bunny diet, which I’ve found extremely helpful in being a new bunny owner myself

OK, I tried the links and none worked. I thought the chunks were to help their teeth from over growing. I thought that was the point of the chunks. but I will get some reg. timothy hay for her though and mix it 50/50. I know the wooden, colored toys help their teeth and all.

The hay cubes are already “pulverized” so it does not benefit their teeth to chew on them. Like Sarita said tho, many buns like them so they are a very healthy treat. The back molars need to grind the longer, fibrous stalks of hay. This is what helps to keep the teeth ground down. Often, rabbits do not have issues with their front incisors, but rather with their back teeth. These cannot be seen by the naked eye. Your vet will use an otoscope to view the molars.

The links work fine for me, but if you scroll up, go to Bunny Info, then Diet, it’s the same page.
