I’ve been using Carefresh Natural for her but money is tight and I can’t really afford it right now. I have to scoop a lot of it out everyday and then add more because I don’t want the cage to be dirty or smell. It’s really good at odor control, but I need to switch. This one claims to control odor, so I thought I’d try it. It’s Kaytee Soft Sorbent Natural Scented Bedding.

I’m trying to avoid Aspen, because a couple of my friends have had bad experiences with it being dusty and scratchy, and doesn’t do well with wetness and odor.

It’s round pelleted bedding, with natural lavender bits in it (I’ll be getting the lavender scent). It’s real lavender, not added fragrance. She’s a smart girl and wouldn’t eat it, but if there was any chance I thought she was, I would stop using it.

        What do you think?

I wouldn’t buy this again. I was in the same situation- usually buying CareFresh but this was cheaper! It doesn’t last as long as the CareFresh though, so it’s really not a good deal. It takes A LOT to fill up a cage. I’m not sure about how safe it is if it’s ingested- I would assume similar to CareFresh. You don’t want them eating it, but a tiny amount won’t hurt..
I’ve found that this (http://www.petco.com/product/114718/Planet-PETCO-Crumbled-Paper-Small-Animal-Bedding.aspx?CoreCat=MM_SmallAnimalSupplies_BeddingLitter) is a pretty good litter, although I still prefer CareFresh. I get it in the 40 liter and it lasts forever! I fill up two store bought cages (used as litter boxes) plus another cat litter box. A 40 liter lasts about a week and a half, doing spot cleans every other day.

The main problem I see is that it has added baking soda for odor control – not good for bunnies to eat/inhale!

Ohmygosh, it does!!! Grrr…. Ok scratch that.
I can honestly say that I’ve filled their litter boxes with shredded phonebook paper. It’s a pain, it’s not absorbent, but it did the job for like a week. I still wouldn’t recommend the Soft Sorbent. Just doesn’t last and ends up being expensive. :\

Not sure if you have access, but I use Cell-sorb, it’s scentless and does a great job, and you get a 40 lb bag for 20 bucks. I know a lot of people use stove pellets(?) too?

I would keep the “bedding” confined to a litter box instead of a whole cage. It will help with litter training if it isn’t everywhere

I have used Cell-Sorb in the past and I liked it. I had to stop tho because it was literally BREAKING THE BANK, especially with two buns! I switched to Wood Stove Pellets and have been saving 75% on litter costs! The wood pellets absorb urine better and mask odor far better than the recycled newspaper.

                    (I spend $40-50 on a year’s worth of litter now.  I was spending $200 a year before.)

I think that is very expensive and yes, you just need to use a litter in the litterbox, no need for bedding.

I would recommend a pelleted litter as well like wood stove pellets. I use something called Lone Star Litter – it is used for horse stalls mainly but it’s $5.90 per bag and it’s 35 pounds and it lasts quite awhile – I think I get about 10 litterboxes out of mine – 5 litter boxes twice a week.
