I got my new Rabbit about 2 days ago, and I haven’t seen her drink. She’s eating great, and she’s doing her “business” fine. She’s being totally playful and she looks very healthy.

I saw her lick the end of the water bottle once, but no drinking sessions like my hamster does. I don’t think she understands how to use it.

I don’t want to use a water bowl because she likes to kick her bedding around, and it would get bedding and other “stuff” in it. Also she would knock it over and make a huge mess.

Is there urine in her litterbox? Many rabbits don’t drink until late at night too.

Yes, there is. She’s urinated several times today.

Then she is probably drinking during the night when you aren’t awake or when you’re gone during the day. Rabbits don’t have the need to drink several times a day like dogs or cats. Lolli doesn’t usually drink much until midnight or later.

Do you notice the water level going down? Jack drinks mostly at night. He sips here and there throughout the day, and then he guzzles everything late late at night.

Check the water bottle too to make sure it is allowing water to go through.

if your bunny is over 3 months, you can smush a little banana on the end of the nozzle to get her to learn how to drink from it if she is not used to water bottles. (just be sure to clean the nozzle really well after she’s done licking it off otherwise the banana can get sticky and prevent the ball from moving freely. I wouldn’t do this though for a younger bunny as banana is a bit too rich at a young age.

If she just won’t use the water bottle, you can get a heavy crock – they are ceramic and usually in the dishes section with dog and cat bowls – that will be hard to turn over and spill. Fill it once or twice a day, and clean it out if she kicks stuff into it, but they are very smart so learn to avoid doing that eventually if it’s getting into their water source. You can keep both the bottle and the crock available and see what she ends up using.

I provide a crock and a water bottle, just in case. I had these metal bowls with handles on them for hanging up, so I wired the bowl to a shelf. Otherwise Nelli would tip it over several times a day >.< . A heavy crock is a much better idea though- a lot easier than UNwiring the bowl every time you change the water.
Btw, I’ve had BunBun and Nelli for a few years and JUST saw Nelli drink water the other day! I often wondered how she didn’t dehydrate. Congrats on your new bunny !
