I just adopted a one and a half year old Rex mix. She is fixed and seems very healthy. I brought her home today have sat with her for a few hours off & on. She has came up to me and explored a little but other than that she has been hiding down in the corner of her cage & seems to be shacking. Is there anything I should do to make this easier on her? She had been in a loud room wig her babies but they were all separated due to fights after being fixed. Help?

First of all, thank you for adopting your new rabbit and giving her a new home!

I’m sure the sudden environment change is very stressful for her; just let her come out on her own terms and make sure she has access to food, water, and hay. It may take a little bit, but she should be out and exploring her new home soon…rabbits tend to be very curious little critters. Just keep an eye on her litter box; if she hasn’t produced anything in 12 hours, notify a vet and/or the rescue where you adopted her.

Well she has been moving around more and using her box with a few expected misses. Except for the shaking she seems to be doing alright! Thank you for the advice I am loving getting to know her & thinking of names!

Awwww, it’s so cute! I know how hard it is to just pick them up and cuddle them to tell them it’s okay. Some bunnies are just shy and will take their time. I know Zelda starts to shake when something up, but she calms down very quickly. It’s completely normal! I read they only shake when super nervous and frightened, so as the others said, just relax, let her come out on her own terms. Don’t reach in and grab her to take her out (I know this is obvious, but just to state!)

Also, I’m a new-ish bunny mammy and I have found this site to be a GODSEND of information, so I hope you find it as useful as I have!

                        Also. PIX!
