Miles is good about peeing in his litter box except when he’s on blankets… On my bed, on the couch…  What the heck am I doing wrong?  He also poops EVERYWHERE, all the time.  Every time I catch him peeing, I scoop him up and put him in his litterbox saying “litterbox”.  If he’s pooping, I herd him towards his box.  He’s able to get up and down as he pleases, so I’m pretty frustrated.  He’s only 10-ish weeks, so he’s really young, and I know it’s going to be tough until he’s older, but does anybody have ideas?

He is smelling you.. and marking his surroundings  I would try to keep him off the couch for now, until he is neutered and his litter box habits are better.

His space will need to be limited until his litter habits improve. Some buns pick up on the litterbox right away, some don’t. Also, some rabbits, even neutered, are never fully litterbox trained. Hopefully neutering will help, but in the meantime, keep him in a more easily controlled space.

I have a similar issue with Zelda who is about the 11week mark herself now (My, how they grow!). She is fantastic with her pooping, only in her litterbox. The very odd time she’ll hop up onto the side table beside my sofa (Which to be fair is almost directly above the litter tray, so the smell is prolly confusing) But lately she has started peeing on the sofa. And it’s usually when i’m watching her. It’s not too much bther as my sofa is leather and I can clean it up straight away. I just pick her up and put her into her litterbox straight away. Hoping she understands soon that this is where she goes. I’m hoping to have her fixed in a few weeks time (Bout the 6mth mark, right?).

Maybe as the others said, keeping him off the sofa if possible would be a great idea. I only allow Zelda up when I’m there. Mainly because I don’t have a choice!

One thing I did with Bear when I was litter training her was to bring her onto the couch with her littler box. I would scoot her into the box, then pick up the box with her in it, and set it on the couch. At first she just got to hang out in the box, and then I’d let her hop around a bit on the couch, but I would keep putting her back in the box every few minutes. Kind of like letting a puppy outside as often as possible when house training. I slowly increased the amount of time I would let her be out of her box until I knew I could trust her – if she went potty out of the box I started putting her in it every few minutes again. She seemed to figure it out pretty quickly that way!

It sounds like he has lots of room. You may want to limit his space. Because he’s so young he’ll probably have problems with his litter box. You might want to make the litter box more appealing by putting some alfalfa hay in it. If he uses it a few times, he’ll be able to sense the smell. Don’t worry though. As soon as he gets neutered his habits will improve, guaranteed.

Another reason for the poop everywhere may be that he’s marking the territory. Usually rabbits will just poop and pee in a corner so he’s probably trying to claim all of your house.

                    Rabbit domination, anyone? >8D

He tried to hump my arm today, so I’m chalking it up to being a bratty, sex-crazed bunny. I limit him to one room at a time, and now we stick to the floor. No access to things he likes to pee on for now, haha Hopefully getting a snip will help him remember his litterbox!
