So I’m just wondering what types of litter everyone uses???

I’m using the carefresh litter right now, but I don’t really like its (lack of) absorbtion. Does anyone else have this problem? There is always a bunch of sludge at the bottom of the litterbox whenever I change it (and I change it everyday). It’s layered probably an inch and half thick and I don’t want to put much more since it’s completely changed everyday. I can also get some pellet litter, can’t remember what type of wood atm, for really cheap through work. I’m not super keen on it though, and I’m not really sure why haha.

but anyways back to the point… what kind of litter do you use??

I used to use carefresh too, then I switched to Yesterday’s News. YN was a lot more absorbant than carefresh, but I found that it would leave a lot of nasty residue on the litterbox that would build up and be really difficult to clean. So after that bag ran out, we’ve been using an equivalent to Feline Pine. It’s actually labeled as horse stall bedding, but is exactly the same thing. I have to say that it’s my favorite out of the litters I’ve tried!

I use something called Lone Star Litter which is a pelleted wood product that turns into sawdust when it gets wet.

I use wood stove pellets – they’re cheap and work great. I used to use Yesterday’s News, which I really liked, but WSP are cheaper and seem to work just as well, so I switched.

I use Cell-Sorb Plus. I got a 40 lb bag for 20 bucks, it seems to work really well.

I use Yesterday’s News, and love it. I’ve used wood stove pellets in the past, but I find the yesterday’s news to have better odor absorption than the wood stove pellets, and less of an odor to themselves, which is nice in a one-bedroom apartment I’ve used feline pine in the past, and had some issues with it, so I prefer yesterday’s news (especially because my local grocery store carries it!).

my town sucks, I can’t find yesterdays news or wood stove pellets

Sarita is your stuff not too dusty? I can get that, but I was a bit worried about it

Have you visited a hardware or feed store for the wood stove pellets? That’s where I get mine, though now that the weather is getting warmer they’re trickier to find. You might be able to find the wood stove pellets used as horse stall bedding – they’re the same thing, but available year round and what Sarita was recommending (the brand isn’t important, just the type of litter). I use wood stove pellets and they’re not dusty at all.

Also, YN is often sold for cats – the bag is bigger and you get more for the money. Try checking the cat litter section (just make sure to get the unscented stuff)

i found wood pellet horse bedding at a tractor supply store. it’s been AWESOME! i got a 50lb bag for something like $6. there’s no dust, it’s super absorbent, and great at controlling odor. i just put a thin layer at the bottom of the pans, and dump them every morning.

i haven’t been to the feed stores in town yet. I’ve been planning a trip soon to pick up a bale of timothy so I’ll look for the pellets when I’m there too. I did check all the hardware stores in town and they didnt have the wood stove pellets :S Which makes no sense because I live in northern BC so you would think that it would be pretty easy to find Ive looked at the cat litter stuff too and there really isnt much selection. My town is pretty small. The stuff I can get from work is a cat litter wooden pellet, but if I can find the horse stall bedding it will probably be cheaper anyway.

                              thanks guy!

I use Yesterdays News and mix it with Aspen Supreme (when I can fit it in the budget as Aspen Supreme is a bit more expensive)
