I have no idea what’s wrong with Nikka, but for the past two days she’s been lunging at me!! She’s always had a little diva attitude but never has she lunged at me before. each time she was in her area eating her hay, and I was cleaning up all the spilled hay as I usually do, and she lunged at me out of nowhere! why is she doing this all of a sudden?

Maybe she’s decided she doesn’t want you messing with her stuff.

Be careful into entering her territory, when Annabelle lunged at me it was because she was nervous before (she was a severe rescue bunny who wasn’t even used to running around). If you tone back a little with entering her space she’ll become less aggressive, also it’s Spring. Natural hormones start to kick in, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much

Is this something the human should obey, or does the rabbit law rule here?

it’s just really weird because I’ve had them for a year now, probably more. she’s never done anything like that before!

She’s fixed right? No chance of her being pregnant or anything? Maybe she’s just having a bad day.

yup both of the bunnies are fixed. maybe it’s a big case of bunnitude… either way, I felt genuinely sad/upset when she did it hahaha. I was like man, is this how my parents felt the first time I talked back to them? I actually asked out loud, “NIKKA HOW DARE YOU?! HOW. DARE. YOU?!?”

My guess is she thought you were posing a threat to taking her hay she was eating away, as you were picking up spilled hay and it’s probably all the same to her, basically “MINE! meaning, STAY AWAY from my vittles!” Especially since she was so focused on her hay, being as she was eating it. Be careful, because next time she lunges, if you keep it up, she may nip you! I know, because its happened to me.

Maybe she’s always resented when she sees you picking up spilled hay (Hey, leave that alone – I’ll get to it eventually!) but her resentment has been building up and now she’s ready to lunge at you. The next step is biting. If either happens, from her point of view she’s within her rights because you’re threatening to take away her food. My bunnies don’t like me picking up their spilled hay either and I have the nip marks – scars now – to show for it! I felt like punishing them for it, but that won’t change their mind and may make them more aggressive. They would behave the same way toward anyone or anything threatening to take their food away, so, it’s really nothing personal. She may make up afterward, come for pets, let you snuggle her, etc. But while they’re eating is a dangerous time to be picking up.

@ Lashkay that’s what I was thinking too, because otherwise she’s still totally fine with me haha. and right now rorschach will not stop mounting her so I think she’s a bit aggravated. -____- chopped the goodies off, and he acts like they’re still there and functioning lol.

Yes, bunnies have aggravations in their life, just as we humans do, and sometimes it can be the human that’s the aggravation! lol Just know, when she get’s ticked, it’s nothing personal, she still loves you. As for rorschack mounting her, I can see why she would be aggravated, she probably feels, enough already! And I don’t know why a neutered bunny would still be mounting unless the neuter was so recent that he still has testosterone in his system and the hormones haven’t faded yet. But, somehow, having lived with bunnies, I’m not surprised!

                              he’s been neutered for almost a year now… he’s just….. unstoppable. hahaha.

I think they definitely have times where they are just like “LEAVE. ME. ALONE.” And with rorschach humping her, she’s probably all b**chy from that. LOL

Lolli is a pretty laid back girl. Until I try to pet her in the box. Then all bets are off and I’m lucky to escape with my hand. She has growled and batted at me. Since we’ve moved in with my dad, she has taken to growling when she’s fed again. No clue why. She just feels the need to let everyone know that the lettuce is HERS. Silly rabbits.

Heh, well, it seems strange because the bunnies are siblings

I think she is being territoral. Chacha goes this way when I am changing stuff out while she is in her condo. Meh.

Even altered buns seem to get that urge in springtime. Like BB’s Jack for example

Heck, my mom’s old cat Jack, even at 17 years old, neutered for 16 and a half of em, got frisky in spring time.

Both my buns are still a little frisky though they are both fixed..actually, Peppy gets it on more than Milo does . I can’t say if it happens more in the springtime, as I’ve only had Milo for about a month now.

I was going to say the thing about springtime, but MB beat me to it! Could be that your boy is getting more humpy and your girl is getting more territorial because something in their brains says “time to have babies!” even though their hormones are gone.
