This poor baby has had his share of crap already!  He’s only 8 weeks old and he’s already had to deal with this upper resp. infection and having me as a mom!  Anyway, just today I’ve noticed that he’s been shaking his head, scratching his ears, and almost aggressively cleaning his ears a lot.  I have to call the vet tomorrow to update him on Miles’ condition since he’s been on antibiotics for the resp. infection for four days now (and is improving), but has anybody had a bunny doing this before?  Just wondering what it might be!

Thanks in advance… You guys have been SO helpful to me since I’ve joined and inundated the place with questions!

Yes.. my bunny has been doing it for a while. It went undiagnosed for a few months and I took her to see 2 different vets. she had an inner ear yeast infection. Make sure the vet does a look through the ears and if the vet sees something, to take an ear culture. that is super important. My bunny does it occasionally now, but it is because she has a little bit of ear wax in her ear (her vet even did an xray and everything is clear).

It’s good that you will be calling the vet. Unless it’s a side effect of the meds (doubtful) it sounds like a slight complication or other problem going on. Could he have picked up a mite in the office? (Not trying to cast aspersions on your vet, but other owners can bring in things in their pets that can sneak into waiting rooms. Something like that.)

Could be an infection or it could just be wax build-up that’s bothering him. Lops often make lots of wax because they can’t clean their ears very well. Only way to know for sure is a vet check-up.

I would recommend calling the vet now instead of waiting. Your bunny is young and the problem may not have been far enough advanced to have been diagnosed by your vet last week. If your bunny was exposed to ear mites or something that caused an infection recently- it may only be showing now.

I had an appointment on Monday already to check in on his resp. infection recovery, so the vet is going to check his ears then. Hope everything is okay! Poor little guy.
