March has honestly done this ever since I got him, on and off and I only notice it when he’s sitting in one spot chilling or resting. Today I heard him do it again and was curious if anyone elses rabbit does this. He was just sitting in his litterpan, watching me here at the computer when he started making this soft wheezing sound. It sounds almost like someone trying to whistle. He does it from time to time when he’s resting but I also heard him do it once when he was scared and breathing hard (thanks to our first adventure with nail clipping. He was scared, hid his head against me and made that noise.)

It varies in how loud it is, sometimes its so soft you don’t hear it or he’s not doing it at all, and sometimes you can hear him across the room.

Unless you see any distress, or physical problems, this sounds like bunny snoring. Bunnies can sleep with their eyes open and some bunnies like to lounge in their litter box, so…..could be sleeping while he’s sitting there. I know you said he does it when he is scared, but have you noticed that he does it when he’s really relaxed?

The fact that he’s done this since you have had makes me worry less about it. Some bunnies are just wheezer/snorers. But it can also signify an illness, but if your bunny seems otherwise healthy, then it’s probably nothing to worry about. If you haven’t had a vet check up since you have had him, then I would just mention it iat March’s next regular vet check-up.

My bunnies wheeze only when they are napping (and since they sleep with their eyes open, you can’t always tell)..the moment I bother them and they get up, the noise stops. I assume it’s just kind of like snoring, so as long as they don’t otherwise seem to be in distress, I’m just leaving it be.

Alright BB, thank you for answering! When I take him in for his vet visit I will mention it.

Also, yes he is usually relaxed when he does it. Either sitting up or lounging on his belly.

When Comet first did this, I freaked and rushed him to the vet and he was put on anti-biotics just in case. Then when it was still happening, they extended them for a few days. When it was still happening, they ran tests and everything came up fine. They told me that it is most likely just that he has developed allergies, since this started when we moved. He will wheeze occasionally and sneeze occasionally now still. But since he seems healthy and doesn’t seem to be affected and we’ve done the tests…it seems that he is just..wheezy/sneezy. I thought about re-naming him Sneezy!
