I’m not sure if this is the right place for this but I’m kind of freaking out right now I went to check on my bun this morning before leaving for work. It’s been really hot the last couple of days and the AC in my house is broken (of course) so I went in there to put some ice cubes in her water, set up a small fan for a slight breeze, frozen water bottle etc. While I was in there she was on the 3rd (top) floor of her condo, pulling and tugging on her favorite blanket. Well she started pulling the blanket and hopping backwards and fell off the the top floor straight to the bottom of the condo, which is about a 12-14 inch distance I don’t know what happened because she’s always been very careful and conscientious of where the ledge is. She seemed ok immediately after the fall. She kind of shook herself off a bit and then climbed back up to the 3rd floor and went back to rearranging her blanket as if nothing had happened.

I feel so awful because I was standing right there when it happened and I couldn’t do anything. I feel like I should’ve been able to catch her even though I know there is no way that I could’ve done that. I stayed with her and watched her as long as I could before having to leave for work and she seemed ok but I’m terrified she’s going to realized she hurt something in a few hours and I won’t be there to notice or take care of her. No one else will be in the house either for me to ask to check on her. Ugh I just feel so guilty. Obviously I’m going to be making some changes to the condo so this can never happen again but I just feel awful that I even let it happen in the first place. I’m just so in shock and worried about her. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through my day at work without worrying myself sick

How much does she weigh? How old is she?

A 12 inch drop certainly isn’t enough for anything but a very tiny or very young bunny to get seriously hurt from. My bunnies regularly jump about 2 1/2 feet off the back of the sofa with no problem. If she wasn’t prepared to jump, the worst I can see happening is that she bruised a foot or cracked a toenail. If that’s the case, she probably would have been limping and licking her feet constantly within a minute or two.

She’s about 2 years old and about 3.5 lbs. I watched her carefully to see if she was limping or anything and I didn’t see any indication that she was hurt. Like I said, after the initial look of “whoa what just happened” she went right back up to the 3rd floor and back to her project with the blanket. I think I was more concerned about the fall than she was. I’m hoping that is a good sign. Just not being able to be there to watch over her for changes in behavior throughout the day is killing me

              Hi,
How is she doing today? Like most of us, if anything was damaged, she’d be sore and favoring it today, or in some way indicating a problem. So watch for a limp or funny behavior.
It sounds like she was fine, though. “Bunnies bounce”

She seems perfectly fine today and is back to her usual antics I really think I was more worried about it than she was but I guess that’s my job as bunny slave haha. I did end up making some modifications to her condo, building a new ramp, to make sure she can’t fall from the 3rd floor straight to the bottom again. I started a thread in the Habitats section about trying to get enough traction on the ramp. If you have any suggestions, I’d really appreciate it

Ah, I had a little scare like this yesterday. Zelda was climbing over me and she was sitting on the side of the sofa. She obviously thought the curtain was solid and was leaning against it and fell down.

I was really worried about her as she’s quite teeny, but she just bounced right back up and carried on. Gave me a right shock too!

I know it’s normal for us to blame ourselves, but bunnies are great at getting into trouble and scaring the beejeebeeze out of us. I do think that your idea of building a ramp though is a good idea to prevent future accidents. So good for you. She’s lucky to have an observant conscientious human who loves and cares for her.

I’ll check down at the habitat thread — and if anyone else, if you have suggestions about the actual habitat/ramp, please respond there.  Here’s the direct link: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/5…spx#228673
